Just got my ride back from the Mech

Just picked up my K9 from the mechanic yesterday. When the final bill came I was a little sticker shocked and wanted to hear other peoples opinions. The front drive pulley had lodged in around the nut. He ended up having to cut the pulley off. Also the clutch basket was near to breaking so he put in a new clutch basket. Here is a list of parts and prices.

Primary gasket rebuild kit-89.99
34 t pulley- 187.20
BD rsd clutch carrier- 383.50
Primary tensioner shoe- 7.95
Redline trans fluid- 17.30
Primary fluid- 11.25
Shop supplies- 5.00
6 hours labor @ 70.00 hour- 420.00

Grand total 1,124.55 After taxes

What's your thought? Fair or taken?

***Edit*** I forgot to mention he gave me 10% off all the parts.

Looks like a shop with reasonable pricing.
That was a lot of work.
Obviously you could save some money by buying all those parts yourself but the shop gathered everything and paid for it up front so they deserve to make a little money.

Your back on the road thats all that matters. Front pully seems a little high. My shop charged me $75.00 for a front pully. $70.00 a hour labor ain't bad either. I was at Camping World the other day and noticed they charged $129.00 an hour flat rate labor. Now $70.00 a hour sounds great :D

If your like me....I can do the easy stuff. Some things I just don't know enough about or plain don't feel like doing it. Your riding again so don't look back and just enjoy the ride :2thumbs:

After I looked at the receipt breakdown and priced some parts on bdmpp I felt pretty good about it. Seems they did an awesome job. Bike runs great. I had some slipping under power before and that is all gone now so I'm stoked. I always thought it was the belt, but I guess it must have been the pulley. I normally do everything too, but I thought this was in the tranny and I wasn't comfortable digging into that. It was the first time my bike has been in a shop. I took it to Dirty Rat Moto in Salt Lake City. It took longer than I had hoped, but I've been gone most the month anyways. The guys there are all super cool and the owner Rick took the time to explain tons of stuff to me about Big Dogs and Baker. Good people and they do good work.

I just did all that except for the clutch basket, those were good prices. I did it myself so I had no labor, but 6 hrs was good.

It's easier to pay the money with a trusted mech rather than doing it yourself. I have little gremlins in my house that steal tools and parts and hardly anything get's done. congrats for getting on the road!

Thats the price of a clutch basket...I should know I just replaced one from Baker...to get the hub....I think you got a fair and square deal....

toomanybikes

not enough time 4 riding
The labor rate is very reasonable so I would be willing to give a little on the parts. I am not I would trust myself with all of the work involved, nor I am sure that I have all of the tools. Since you are back on the road I would enjoy the ride.

that all seems individualy reasonable, but it's definately a shock when you add it all up (kinda like my credit card receipts after the weekend).

I think it's a fair deal.

And it sounds like there is a good repair shop in Salt Lake City.
