jump start

Hi my 06 K9 is standing at a local bikeshop. I went to fetch my my bike but the batery was dead . The deal then jump started the bike. The bike started but as he removed the jumper cables the bike died. After this there is no spark. I have changed the EHC still same problem. Where can I look please? South Africa

Have you load checked your battery? And checked to see if the Voltage regultor is pushing at least 14 volts back to the battery. Seems like ya really can't diagnose the problem unless you have a good battery. And jump startin is not good for tha Dog.

Hi thank for the reply. I have put the battery on slow charge until full . Were do I look for the regulater? How do a test it sorry for sounding stupid but I'm batteling with these wanna be bike machanics in South Africa. Is there a replacement regulater available ? Regards Tiaan

Sounds like a dead dead dead battery. Replace the battery with one that has at least the same cold Crank Power as the stock one or go higher on the cold crank power if you can find one. I don't think you need to replace anything else, just the battery.

yes, first try the battery, but if that doesn't help, the VR is located at the front of the frame down at the radius under the front of the motor. that finned thing. if you ever have to jump it off again, use a jump box (portable booster box) never use a car/truck that is running.

All good advice above. Start with a new battery and work from there. Don't forget the fuse/circuit breaker, which ever you have. Then come back and tell us what you.

You said that after the jumper cables were removed the bike died. Your battery is so dead that even the charging system can't keep up with it.

A GOOD battery must have a minimum of 12.8 volts across the terminals after OFF the battery charger for an HOUR.

If not mentioned earlier, I think there may be a fuse or CB inline for the ignition box.

Trying to run the bike on a very dead battery after a jump runs the risk of damaging the charging system components.

Get a AGM style battery that is rated over 300 CCA and keep the bike on a AGM battery approved battery maintenance charger when not riding.
