I was tring to help a friend of mine today to get the miss out of his 06 K-9.
He just put a spike air cleaner on it, and its started missing when he accelerates fron around 50 mph. It had a 31 interm. jet and a 76 main in it. I changed the main to a 78 and it did no good and I then pulled the vent plug and it did no good also. He is running the spike horrizonal. I know everyone runs the vertical will this make that much differance.Think I should go up another size on the interm. Any suggestions.

Might try it. If its lean shoud cough back thru the carb with a quick twist on the throttle

I had the same issues with my bike, re-jetted to 33-78 still had the same problems. I installed the K&N pre filter and that helped, the carb is getting to much ram air effect at higher speeds. I changed to a S&S dual runner and never have the problem since

You will never get it to run great with that P.O.S. air filter. Cut it off at the elbow, slide on a K&N filter.

I ran mine horizontal initially, and had issues, coughing, missing etc. Then had it turned up vertical, and that seem to take care of the issues.

I know allot of guys don't like these filters, but I think they look great, and no issues when turned up vertical, at least for me.

If it starts to miss when he accelerated from 50 on up you need to drop the 76 to a 74 and adjust your accel pump. :2thumbs:

Send the card to Zippers and have them install a thunderjet...did the same mods to mine and had the same problems...installed the thunderjet and had some other things done, second bowl vent and different air bleed installed. got the carb back, installed it, adjusted the idle speed...off to the races. Ran like a champ pulled hard all the way to redline never a sputter. Just a thought.

I have a spike filter on my 06 k9 and it misses at wide open throttle on the highway. The spike filters dont flow enough for our motors, they "choke" them at WOT at highway speeds. I switched to an S&S air cleaner and gained a ton of top end power, but I lost some throttle response at lower RPMs. I ended up going back to the spike for the looks and that "snappy'" feel. Wish I could have both, but cant afford a Dual Runner.

RidinDirty, got his spike turned vertical today and it made all the differance in the world.
