Im not sure if anyone has had any electrical problems with their dog...... but if you have the first thing you need is a good VOM. (volt ohm meter) A great one to have is a Fluke 77, don't go to radio sham and buy a $25 pos....go to ebay and buy a $100 quality piece of equipment. I never leave home without it.... here is a link to one.... I have nothing to do with this particular link, just the type that I use....just advice from someone that has been in electronics for 30+ years...

I would agree with ya however it's a bit big to carry around everywhere and I would worry about loosing it or break down from vibration. I keep my Beckman 3010 in the garage and take a cheap one from harbor freight with me on long trips. I've not had the opportunity to use it thank god.

Thanks for sharing the link Mike, I could always use another meter and Fluke is a quality product....:2thumbs:

You can usually pic one up on ebay, slightly used for around $75. One of the ones I like is a 77 IV. Does pretty much everything that you need in day to day use in the home and garage. I like this model because it has a backlight on the display. Fluke has so many models it will make your head hurt looking at them. I guess I should qualify my statement on leaving home with out it....I don't carry one with me on my day to day short rides, not that it wouldn't be a good idea.....but I figure if I am within 60 miles of home, I could call a friend to help me out. I would like to find a good pocket meter that I could carry in my tool bag that the vibration wouldn't get to. I bet the military has one that would survive anything.:flag:

Insert title here...
While I agree with you 110% about the need to own a good meter, 99.9% of the time a cheapy serves the purpose when it comes to troubleshooting these bikes. After all, the only thing you're usually looking for is continuity or voltage.

It's way more important to learn HOW to use the meter you have than the brand you use or what you paid for it... :D

Same here for 20+ years. Love my Fluke! Much more sophisticated than what is needed for motorcycle electrical systems. A cheapie is all you really need but Fluke is quality!!!
