Hey guys I have this little issue, In Sept last year bought a 370cc amp BigBoar Battery, had bike on tender all winter, been getting some nice rides in now but on Sunday I was out on it all day, it started up very easy at the beginning of the day but it seemed like each time I stooped and refired it it would drag a bit more, then the last time it wouldn't turn over and the 4 ways came on I pushed the starter button and it fired up rode home and put it on a tender but the next day the tender was still red so I hooked up the charger got a full charge 13.8v on battery let it set with no charger on it and next day it was still full charge 13.7v so rode to work and home again battery hd 13.3v then. so I start the bike and now it has 12.6 to 12.8,@ battery post NOW this is my question when I rev it up 2 to 3k it still stays at 12.8 and stays like that for the entire 5 minutes I run it, then I shut it down and now the battery shows 13.4 v again.. any help would be appreciated. Mike

It could be Volt Reg, but you will also want to check your stator output. Stator output should be around 20 VAC at idle and up near 50VAC at 2500-3000 rpm.

you should have +-13.4v at your batt when you rev it up if not you are not charging your battery I would look at your stator output like bdtech said

Make sure that the circuit breaker hasn't tripped. They are behind the left electrical cover. Push the reset button on them. If you feel a click, recheck the voltage output at the battery.

08's do not have a circuit breaker.

Voltage at battery with bike running should be 13.4-14.8 in that area. Refer to BigDogTech's post check stator then VR. More than likely the VR took a dump.

Shit howdy I was looking at the K9 wiring diagram and was under the impression the circuit breaker was replaced with a fuse...

I took the Voltage Regulator off after looking for the CB for a good while, I was going to run the wire backwards to see where it ended at. THE VR was very clean, on the outside no signs of any problem's but when I turned it over there is a hole burned into the back about 1in by 2in. looks like someone held a torch in one spot for a while, Two questions, 1) the new Voltage Regulator part # BD170-000169-05 that the dealer sent me (extra fast ) has 4 wires 2 for the plug 1 short ground wire and 1 for the silver side of the CB. the one I took off only has 3. No ground wire. they told me that this is the new upgraded one can anyone tell me if its what should be on the bike?? and where should I mount the ground its only about 10 long. question 2 with the burnt VR is there a need to look into the stator?? Thanks for all the help from everyone here. Mike

You could check the stator just to be safe. You will have it disconnected when you replace the regulator. Just start the bike and take a volt ohm meter set on the ac scale and check the voltage at the 2 pins where you disconnected the regulator. At idle it should read around 10-20 volts ac, as you increase the rpms the voltage should go up. I think the voltage goes as high as around 60 volts ac when you crack the throttle.

Damn, same problem on my '09 RB... Gonna talk to the gateway bigdog guys just to hear what they have to say...mainly to see if they have a replacement VR stocked as I find it hard to believe that the stator could be bad already(3000miles since 10/2009) but I will get myself a badass DVM to check it anyway....
