Intake Gaskets Leaking Again!

I have an 06 Chopper been adjusting the carb for 2 days now after no luck I sprayed the intake gasket on the front cylinder and the bike shut off, the gasket is bad. This is the second one in two years, anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions on a fix?

What kind of air cleaner are you using and do you have the appropriate mounting bracket for it. If you have something other than stock you need to make sure you have the right mounting bracket. The bracket at will help keep the air cleaner bouncing around every time you hit a bump or the engine vibration.

Hey Top, Air cleaner is all stock but K&N filter. Second time front intake gasket went bad.

Just as a helpful hint, and old school S&S mechanic taught me to use some white lithium grease and lube the seals before installing them. I replaced my set once and never had any issues afterwards.:up:

Getting the alignment correct is also critical. Before you tighten the 4 bolts that hold your intake in place, be sure to mount your breather and align the 2 bolts that secure your breather to the heads. Once the bolts are in place on the breather, then you can tighten the other 4 bolts that hold down your intake. The white lithium grease sounds like a good idea as well, but I've never had to use it.

As he said when i have had to do it I got best results attaching the intake, carb and backing plate together as a assembly. Installed the assembly using the two 5/16" air cleaner bracket to head bolt as the guide to lineeverything up. snug it down, shim the backing plate bolts and torque.

what gaskets are you using?s/s or harley?the harley ones are thicker work great,just sayn

all done runs like a champ and carb set now. used a little white grease and oh yes best to line everything up the tighten. thanks all for the help

I replace mine every year just cause of all the miles I put on. I will tell you that S&S told me not to use grease or other when installing them!!! But I always do just cause it makes it easier to get everything aligned. I've had no problems doing it this way.
