If your're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

Good Morning All,

I've done some research and not rec'd much feedback from the BDM, WBC, and a few others so I'm venturing out with a couple of experiments for my 03 Chopper. :bang:

1. J&P has a couple of 2-5/8" gauges that I'm hoping will work with the 03 tach bracket and harness...was not sure of the connections or the signal type or strength coming from the control module and like I said, rec'd no feedback else where, so I'm checking it out first hand. I'll post what I find out once the dust settles.

2. The whole thing with the sissy bars and struts for this year/model makes me want to beat the crap out of somebody (not that I have violent tendencies) so I'm taking the struts to a local machine shop and have a set fabricated using the GINZ Choppers universal brackets. I think I'll end up lengthening the struts to move the tail lights further back which will allow me to increase the overall width and add more material to the section where the bar attaches...should make it stronger as well...

Like I said, just frustrated myself and see/hear the frustration of a few of you and want to do something about it...more to follow...kg

Good luck with your venture, let us know the outcome...:2thumbs:
Follow-up to #1: Got the speedo (J&P 560-011) and tach (J&P 570-007) mounted with the BDM tach bracket; also bought the tach pigtail which I didn't need for the tach but ended up using for the speedo. Also had to change out the speed sensor ($94 from BDM:bang:). Speedo had to go to Autometer and have the miles programmed manually; while they were at it, I had them add the pulse count and hours as well. There was no charge and they turned it around in a couple of days. Got it back and mounted, works fine!!! The tach is another story; it is programmable from 1/2, 1, and 2 pulses per revolution. H-D takes the 1/2 pulse, guessing the metrics take the 1 pulse, and the BDMs are 2 pulses. Wired it up and the needle will bounce from 500 to 1750 at idle and at highway speeds from 1500 to 2750. Isolated it from vibration, no fix; tried resistors, no fix. When my WiresPlus EHC gets here, I'm gonna replace the ignition as well and hope that fixes it...more to follow.

Follow-up to #2: Found some stock BDM struts for my Chopper from these guys Biker Garage 101 - Motorcycle Parts & Assessories for Less.....seems they were in on the bankruptcy sale when BDM went under; got the left and right for less than $50 each...looked as though they had quite a few other BDM parts as well...anyways, gonna take them to a local machine shop along with the universal mount kit from GINZ, have them fab up a thicker set that follows the same radius along the fender, weld in the GINZ mounts and move the tail lights further back (about 3" longer than stock)...more to follow on that as well...
