Hey gang, having a little problem I hope a guru can help me with.

After taking her out of storage (didn't start it up for almost 2 months), she runs fine, but won't idle without me constantly giving it a little gas.

When I put her into storage, it would idle nicely, i could take hand off throttle at a redlight etc. (occasionally all the lights of the tachometer would flash) but it would idle fine. Now, if I take my hand off the throttle it will sputter and die.

Thoughts? Can i just turn that little flat-head screw looking thing to adjust the fuel / air mixture to fix?

thanks in advance!

If it ran fine before storage and doesnt now. Adjusting the carb shouldnt do that. Chances are the carb has gummed up a bit from fuel sitting in there. I would pull the carb apart and give it a good cleaning. One of the jets might be clogged up a bit.

If you have a s&s carb., go to there web site and print out instruction about your carb. It will show you everything you need. both stinger and standuprick are right, but you do have a idle screw, it should not hurt to raise your idle a little and that may be all you will need. nice bike like the color

Did you use a fuel stabilizer before you stored it? If not, drain the tank and float bowl first and replace with fresh Shell or Sunoco, as these are very easy tasks to accomplish. Ever see the size of the jets in the Super G ? Pretty big, I doubt they would gum up that badly after just 2 months.

If you have a little trash in your fuel, your jets could be obstructed. Like mentioned before, I would pull the carb, drop the bowl, pull the jets and clean all ports in the carb. All it costs is a little time and a can of carb cleaner. You may already know this, but if your lights flash on your tach, it means your idle is too low. Needs to be above 900 rpms for the oil pump to keep enough pressure for a good flow.

There is this stuff called, seafoam. As mentioned:

1. No. Setting the idle up will not unclog the jet(s).
2. No. If the bike is that close to idling, it says it is not that dirty (yet).
3. Yes. It says, I pull fuel thru both jet holes at idle. I am the main, I sit lower. I may be clogged.
4. Yes. It says, I pull fuel thru the low speed, but I sit higher. I may have dried out, caused a ring around the collar, meaning, I am coating the inside wall and made the hole smaller in flow.
5. Yes. That is why if I set the idle up, that cures the more gas I need. The less fuel out of either/or jet hole is my problem at this point.
6. Yes. I may seafoam a tank full with fresh gas as mentioned. I should either drain my tank, pour it in the car; Take fresh gas, read my seafoam gas to foam ratio and start pouring.
7. Yes. I don't need no stinking screwdriver and parts all over the place with gas splash anshit.
8. Yes. I better remember to just look at my float bowl, find my drain screw for water find or find that if I drain the gas for the short stay of not riding it, I can avoid all the start upping and battery draining, like I need a charger too to keep the battery up or I'll be back on line about a battery problem...

Lets clear the gas problem first.

After cleaning the carb and if your dog is still idleing too low (you'll know this because the lights will flash on the tach) then adjust the idle up a little. Don't confuse the idle screw with the air/fuel mixture screw. You can go to S&S website to see which is which on a Super G carb.
