Idle & fuel/air mixture

Is it best to have the bike idle at 1,000 rpm? I was getting warning lights at idle so I adjusted the screw to that.

Also- I want to make sure I'm not running too lean. Which way do I twist the fuel/air mixture screw to make it richer? I have it centered now, would twisting it 1/8th-1/4th on the richer side be good?

Thanks :2thumbs:

The idle should be at 1000 RPM, the lights flashing are designed at 900 RPM, make sure you have it above the falshing lights. DO NOT lug below 2000 RPM when riding. Best to have RPM check via the software due that the ligths can be off by a little.

You can also use a good inductive tach to check RPM's if needed. To riching on the screws, counter clockwise. Follow Chacha's link and advice.

Good luck and safe riding

The best way to adjust your fuel/air screw is this...

Screw in the accel pump (screw furthest forward/towards the front of the bike) till it seats (righty).

Then start to spin the mixture screw 1/4 turns till the motor starts to want to die. Give it time between each 1/4 turn.

Now screw it in reverse counting the turns, till it starts to die on the other end.

Now divide that in half and screw it to that position. So if its a 1.5 turns from almost dead to almost dead. Turn it back the other way from almost dead 3/4 a turn.

Now spin the accel pump out (lefty) 1.5 turns. Give the throttle a quick jab from idle. If the motor doesn't take right off and kinda coughs then accels. Turn it out another 1/4 turn. Try again. Repeat till it throttles up fast and nicely.

Now adjust the idle speedo to what you want.

DONE!

Thanks guys  I don't know what I'd do without this forum.

I just made some adjustments and it's running even better than before!
