I ran into another k9 owner at a party tonight we got talking bikes showing pictures and stuff. I have a 2010 he said he toured the factory back in 2007 and they told him the 117s were really 124s..... so is this correct?
No..you'd have to change the crankshaft, not the heads on a 117 to create a 124--by giving it a longer stroke (4 5/8"--) see SMCT above. And note pistons and heads are separate ideas here.I never go inside an engine so forgive me if it sounds crazy. But will swapping the piston heads turn the 117 into a 124 ?
i think '04 was 117" option with 107" standard, then '05 went to straight 117". never a 124" option until the new 2016, but i've been wrong before.No..you'd have to change the crankshaft, not the heads on a 117 to create a 124--by giving it a longer stroke (4 5/8"--) see SMCT above. you could bore out the cylinders for a few more inches too, but the longer stroke on that 124 is what makes it sing...at least the one I rode had tons more power than my K9 (decked, 585 cam 2-1 VH)....it was a smoother, too.
BTW--the Baggers have the 111' which s a 'square' engine. That makes plenty of torque because the bore is identical to the stroke (4 1/8 X 4 1/8).
And to my knowledge, BDM made a switch to the 117" engine (someone help with the date here) and used that exclusively. I never heard of a stock Big Dog up to 2011 with a 124....
Matt Moore started using the 124" engine in the new Big Dogs (at least in the K9's). See Bigdogisback.com for options.
I think it is a 124 x wedgeI believe the wolf is a 121 isn't it
Close, 121 X wedge, has three cams in it and I believe it's 52* V.I think it is a 124 x wedge
Oops, dent already had it covered.Close, 121 X wedge, has three cams in it and I believe it's 52* V.
I could fix you up with thatyes, the X-wedge and the 111" in the bagger were part of the "hybrid" bike line-up but for me, i generally don't think of them as the standard, more of a specialty bike. the 107" and the 117" were what carried BDM from start to finish, but would certainly like to hook up with one of the new ones with the non-EPA 124" just to see what the 117" should have felt like.
if you were to do that, i am sure i would just get myself into a hell of a lot of trouble. thanks for the offer, though. maybe i'll win the lottery some day and get my own.I could fix you up with that![]()
Don't kid anyone. If you win the lottery you will just buy a double wide....if you were to do that, i am sure i would just get myself into a hell of a lot of trouble. thanks for the offer, though. maybe i'll win the lottery some day and get my own.
