I finally tore into my poor bike and learned something today

I learned my Pitbull's gas tank is literally a dual tank lol I thought for sure it'd just be a u-shape that sat down over the backbone of the frame. Nope, literally a 2 piece tank where they bolt individually to the backbone.

I don't know if this will make it easier to clean up and refresh the inside or not. It should be easy to pour some vinegar in and let it sit to clean up any scale/crud/rust on the inside. With only 1 fuel barb on the bottom to plug on either side, it'll be a breeze to fill this up, swish it around with a small piece of chain inside, and pour out the grimy contents. Do you guys know if they make any fancy thicker rubber cap (not those flimsy vinyl ones for vacuum lines) that'll slip over the barbs and keep the contents inside, or do I just need to take the old fuel hose pieces, jam a bolt or allen wrench or something in the other end and clamp it down?

Once I got down there and looked at it, it was pretty easy to figure out how to take it apart and found one of the visible fancy bolt/washers they use to bolt it to the frame and compress a rubber bushing was loose on the "passenger" side, once the speedo was taken off. Also, the hose underneath the speedo that connects the 2 sides weren't connected on the "driver" side of the tank. Oh well, once I get it cleaned out and put it back together, I can remedy those.

Now, while it's off, hopefully I can take care of something I couldn't quite easily do when I worked on this thing last....get the 4 bolts holding the intake manifold seal torqued down properly. As I recall, the tank was in the way. Hopefully I can get at them and loosen them up and crank them down properly. That was probably a large portion of my issues with it not running right when I first got the bike a few years ago when it had the crummy old original seal on it.

I just like my Freedom
Yeah those Pitbull tanks get in the way a lot. But you can just take off one side if you need. You should be able to find some thicker caps. Ck the auto parts stores or even a HomeDepot or Lowes. Just for my own piece of mind, I connected the top vent barbs with a tee and ran a overfill line down to the botom of the bike. The lower front barbs have to be hooked together for flow between the tanks.
