Insurance agency wants a copy of my endorsment (which I dont have yet) before selling me Insurance. Cant get an endorsement without Insurance..WTH?

Im in the state of La. Any ideals, suggestions would be appreciated.

I was thinking my insurance agent would just draw up a temporary binder so i can get an endorsement.

You mean your Motorcycle license endorsment? Why would you have to have insurance to get the endorsment  In Indiana you don't have to have anything, just take the written test and get learners pemit, then either take a riders course or the riding test to get the full MC endorsment. I can see why the Insurance company would want to see a MC endorsment to insure you. I'm sure all states are like that.

why do you need to register the bike to take the written test? I'd think you would take the written test, take the temp permit in to insurance company to get insurance and registration, then go take the riding test. Besides I would never take a riding test on a Big Dog anyway!!!! That would be worse than trying to use a sport bike to take it, especially in the cone test!

Screw registration on the bike. Use a friends little bike to take the riding test.

Im sorry also to register bike..Need proof of insurance!
If you have never had a MC endorsment or you let it expire, you will have to start over with the learners permit process. That will give you what you need to get insurance and register the bike.

Progressive doesn't require the endorsement or saftey course. You actually get a discount for both of them.

Ok I know exactly what you are talking about, what I had to do was use a friends bike to pass the road test with his insurance on his bike. Yeah this is a stupid law that the state has. Then this allowed me to get my endorsement and get insurance on my first harley.
One thing you might check on that work for another friend of mine was he was able to use his truck policy, (this works when renting a harley) The main thing you have to have is some type of insurance, not necessarily motorcycle ins. to get the endorsement . Just call and ask

Just keep in mind LA has the best lawmakers and politicians that money can buy so they have some messed up requirements.:loony::loony:

It seems that what you really need is to get the insurance to get the bike registered and need to have an endorsement to have it registered. Catch 22 for sure.

That said, the easist thing would be to get the learner permit, go buy insurance and get registered in those steps. Use the learners permit within it parameters to ride until you can complete a MSF course and then get full endorsement or borrow someones small easy to manuver bike and go take the road test.

Also would not recommend taking the road test on the BD, though with the right skills it can be done. Just with the pressure and some of the typical requirement, (cones, emergecny stops, etc), may hamper you somewhat and cause one to fail.

Good luck

speaking from experience, it can be done on a K9 but it is not the easiest thing in the world. find a friend who is willing to loan you a smaller bike to use and get some out of the way seat time on it and then go get your license with it.

It differs from state to state ... just move to Hawaii where all you need is to take the motorcycle test and get the endorsement. No riding test ... I've had a motorcycle endorsment for 20 years on my license before I actually bought a bike ... just incase one day I might own a bike ... it didn't cost that much more to keep the endorsement when we moved to Arizona where you need to take a riding test to get the endorsement. Glad I had the endorsement all this time .... it paid off. :D:whoop::flag::up:

By the way ... I don't think I could of passed the riding test on my Ridgeback ... too many 90 degree turns in the test for a 9 foot bike. Had a friend on a Victory that actually laid down his bike taking the riders test here in Cottonwood. His brother was laughing really hard until it was his turn to take the test on his Victory and laid it down too. Again glad that all I needed to do in Hawaii was the written test for my motorcycle endorsement.

So your saying that you cannot walk into your local DMV and take your written(permit)test, without having insurance on a bike, what if you did not own a bike,It sounds like someone is yankin ya,as far as needing ins to reg your bike, that sounds right,,,,Follow Fibers advice,Good luck
