Hesitation Issues

My custom chopper has the 100 revtech, SS Shorty carb. Bike has approx 3500 mi on it and has been running great.... Until the phantom came and consumed my bike. Now, every time I go ride It will start and run flawless, that is until I stop, shut it off and park it. When I restart the bike it fires fine, idles, then about 100ft. down the road it begins to sputter, cough, and run like crap, almost as if it has the choke stuck on or is running out of gas. Bike will actually idle ok but will not run under throttle, seems like it will intermittently fire only one cyl then all of a sudden kick in and run fine, then back to the sputter, back and forth as I limp it all the way home. After the bike sits for an extended time, I hop on go for a ride the next day, BOOM, same thing, starts and runs great until I shut if off for the first time....
Checked the gas cap, venting fine, cracking it before I take off, does not hiss or purge, and does nothing for it. Tried turning fuel off and letting run out of gas before I kill engine and crack cap, no help. (trying to rule out vapor lock). Fuel line not resting against jugs, choke not sticking, fuel line and petcock have great flow. Pulled apart carb, nothing stuck out at me,???

tank clean, blow jets out with air?are you the guy that had a coil wire shorting out?may still have and electrical issue.justsomething to look at.also when you pulled the carb apart did you check the needle and seat for sticking?good luck:cheers:

Sounds more like heat. Have you checked the crank sensor or cam sensor depending on what you have on that revtech??

I've posted this here many times and it sounds like you have an over-rich issue.
Are you using the "enrichener" device (choke) as you call it?
It will foul out your plugs very quickly. Don't use it if you don't need to.

Change your plugs and adjust your carb per the S&S instructions. Don't use the enrichener unless you have too then only for starting then use the throttle to maintain rpm.
Shut off your accelerator pump till you get it dialed in.
What jets did you change to and are you running the E or G carb?

This is what not to do using the enrichener!!! Watch for all the black smoke to shoot out of the pipe when it starts. Notice how many times he twists the throttle in addition to using the enrichener?

There are plenty of dawgs more qualified than me to give mechanical advice, but something to think about. The quote below is straight out of the S&S carb manual (search on this site) and kinda falls in line with what Ray is saying. Mine runs rough (rich) if I shut it off for a little while, but it's temporary and clears up in a few minutes after taking off. Do you have an insulator block between the carb and the manifold?

1⁄4" insulator block between carb and manifold
omitted. Heat transfer from manifold to carb may
cause temporary rich condition at idle and low rpm
when engine restarted after being shut off for 10
to 20 minutes. Install insulator block to minimize
heat transfer.

I'm going to make an assumption here that nothing has changed on your scoot (upgrades) with that said i would focus on either the fuel or electrical circuts. I would start with the elecrtical first and clean or replace your spark plugs. Next i would replace your plug wires and clean the coil where the plug wire ports are and remove any green oxidation. A faulty plug wire will fire pretty evenly at an idle (when the bike is warmed up) but when a load is put on it.....it will hesitate and miss because it cant transfer the spark efficently. most plug wires have a carbon embbed paper element within the wire that heat plays hell on, and becomes very fragile to movement over time, such as cleaning or waxing the bike within the proximity of the spark plug wires. it's a small investment a may be worth a try.

Im kind of with Gas on this he says that every time he does this the same results. If the plugs foul they should not fix them selves. I think that as long as he is riding it it stays pretty cool and when he parks it the heat jumps up and is causing some problem from a sencor or something.
