Alright when I got my scoot I didnt notice any noises comeing from the primary. I recently got my oil changed in motor and primary. Since then I have noticed a grinding noise comeing from the primary. Under throttle it is a heavy grind and while coasting it is just a grind not like metal on metal. I went out and pulled the inspection cover on the primary and the cover on the clutch all looked good. The chan is not loose and doesnt seem to be too tight. I wanted to know if changing oils one brand to another with less viscosity would let it make a noise. I dont know what was ran before but I put Harley Synthetic in it and was wondering if any of this was normal.

you should not be running synthetic in your primary. Big dog does not call for that in primary. I had syn in mine before I knew and it causes a premature wear out of my clutch pak. NOt sure why it's louder that seems strange to me. Others with more knowledge will chime in shortly im sure..

Might be that the chain was too tight and wore out the tensioner shoe. I had the shoe wear out one time (ran out of oil) and there is a definite grind noise!

Only other thing I can think of is that something was not put back right. Did they take off the outer primary or do anything with the chain, clutch, starter jackshaft?

My take would be the front compensator sprocket, I've had mine come loose twice and make the noise your describing. If not looked at it will wipe out your whole charging system. Remove the outer primary completely and check that front nut.

Thanks I will check it tomorrow long hours at work and not a lot of wrench time but i want to learn all that I can. Is the gasket that goes around the primary an o-ring or regular gasket. Wondering if I can re-assemble without ordering anything.:whoop:

I figured it out when the local shoped changed my oil I saw him tighten up the chain tensioner.:bang: When I checked it the chain was tighter than a banjo string so I loosened it up and the noise went away before it wore out the shoe.:D Now she's running great:2thumbs:
