Ok.....Rebuilt starter.....brand new tomokio battery......when i start the bike.... all i hear is the starter making a clicking sound. ................ 1 hour later...fires right up with no problem. Next day...same shit. wont start....starter makes clicking sound. It cant be the battery...because its brand new....and the starter was rebuilt a few months ago. All connections look good and tight. The bike pretty much starts when she wants...and always fails at the worst times. Could the solonoid be dirty? Any ideas?

My 07 K-9 has been doing that periodically. First it was a loose neg. cable at battery then well other wierd crap started happening now it runs when it wants. I think a wires plus is next on my list:confused:

Do this
Remove the starter solenoid cover.
Be careful the plunger is spring loaded so it will push out on the cover as you remove it
Now take a big screwdriver and push the plunger in firmly with the plastic handle side of the screwdriver
Does the starter spin right up with no problem?
Now put the cover back on
Turn the bike on and try starting it with the Start Button
Clicking or acting lame

by the way....all lights work. horn works. blinkers work. everything works. starter just makes clicking sound. After i let the bike sit for a while............the bike fires up perfectly. Its very quirky. Could it be the Ignition? I have the original factory Big dog ignition. This shit has been going on for a while...and i just want to resolve the issue.

Just because the battery is new, doesn't always mean that it is good. I have wasted hours chasing electrical issues because a new battery has a dead cell or can't hold up to the demand of the bigger motors. Don't assume anything and make sure it is good by having it tested.

Just my 2 cents.

This right here is good information,The Kaptain is trying to solve your issue for you by trying to find out about your starter being the problem...stick with one solution at a time, everyone is fast to blame all the wrong things first when lotsa times its just something simple....

Put a slam button on it so when it just wants to click all you do is push it and be done with it...:D

im not very mechanical. i did install the battery...the main ground connector is the 3rd wire out from the battery terminal. should the main ground connector be first to touch battery directly?... Sorry for the dumb questions, but im not a mechanic. on the positive side...the main Hot connector is flush with the battery terminal. should it be the same on the ground side?

Yes put the main ground on first or closest to the post then add the other wires. use a piece of fine sandpaper and clean all your connectors at the terminals. I used a little dielectric grease on all the terminals to prevent corrosion. have you cleaned your EHC connectors? that may or may not be the problem but that fixed my problem.
KaptinAmerika Beat me to the post. He's got a lot of good info on things like this. Thanks Kaptin

ok....i corrected the battery hookups. put the main ground first..... left one spacer in. took one out.....then tightened by hand. Bike started up perfectly 5 times in a row. i hope that solved the problem. But would that really have caused the starting problems/symptoms that i stated above?

Yes
The Battery Is A Finite Resource
Its not Like Plugging InTo A 110 Outlet
You Have To Insure The Resources Are Being Used Wisely
Did You Do What I Asked Earlier As I Am Very Interested In The Results

After fixxing the battery connections....i rode all day today. Not one problem all day. I cant believe something so simple can stop the bike from starting. Thanks for the advice guys.

I had a buddy that is running an 03 chop
If he doesn't keep his battery connections tight, and I mean tight, it will constantly shut down
