Hi guys
2006 k9
Ok first thanks in advance for any help.
This is my first dog have had it about 8 months and put about a 1000 miles on it with no problems. About a month ago it cut out at about 60. Pulled over cycled the key hit run started right up. It has done this 3 or 4 times now. Today I get on it went about a mile and cut out. Tried recycling the key but still crank no fire. Pulled seat the red light comes on when I hit the run button I did not notice if it stayed on when cranking. I think I saw the yellow flash though as it cranked over.
What lights are supposed to be on and when?
Are the crank sensors known to go bad?
The other thing I noticed is now and then the spedo does not read. Now when I turn the key on the tach does not sweep. But the spedo does.
Thanks john

Thanks lots of good info. Of course when I went back to bike it started. I put 100 miles on it and running fine now.

First thing I would replace is the ignition switch. 05 through 06 got a bad batch of ignition switches. The springs weren't stiff enough so it allows the switch to lose contact which causes the EHC to rest itself. If left unchecked it can run the main breaker in the EHC.

I found it. I thought it was the gas cap until I replaced my speedo that kept going out with a dekota. The spedo was still flashing at times and at times it would go out completely. Pulled spedo apart all connections were good. Worked my way back to the ech. When I wiggled the connector the yellow light con ech came on spedo went out got smoke and bike died. Funny thing is been riding it for a week and has been running fine other the dropping the speedo. So I pulled the conector apart and found 2 wires shorted inside the conector to the ech. Bingo no more spedo drop out and I hope no more bike dying.
Thanks guys
John
