Help! Chuga-chuga noise?

At first I thought the noise was comming from the clutch, but after removing the outer primary I find the noise is comming from the stator rotor area. I tore everything apart and cant find anything obvious. Nothing was loose. The noise is a metallic noise like something is loose, and I reaaly hear it when I shut the motor off and the motor is still turning for a second. The only thing I can think of is the splines on the stator rotor are slightly worn causing it to wobble ? I hope its not the crank bearings! Any ideas or similar noises? Any help would be appreciated.

Man, wish I could help but "Chuga-chuga" just isn't in my memory bank. Not to make Fun of your problem, but maybe your bike is trying to be the "Little Engine that Could"!

Check your fork seal covers to see if one is loose...
Could also be the cylinder pressure as the rotating mass is coming to a stop.

And you are sure your clutch is disengaging? A drag would cause this Chug thing I think.

Yeah, clutch works fine,other than some slipping under full throttle. I pulled the outer primary, removed clutch pack, and started the bike. Noise is definitely coming from stator area. Sounds like the stator rotor is rubbing on something or a real bad bearing noise.

Could it possibly be some thing simple like a loose cam sensor?

Stator looks fine, no broken bolts. Alot of fine metal shavings on rotor magnets. Gonna clean it up and put it back together and see if the noise goes away. If not it must be a bearing. I,ll keep you posted on what I find. Thanks for the help.

While you have it apart, get an inspection mirror out and check your that your clutch carrier bolts didn't back out. Mine did that and left a good groove on my inner primary plate. Not sure if I would call the noise a Chuga-chuga noise, but it did kinda sound like a lathe...

If what you are hearing goes away when you accelerate and starts again when at idle or when you reach the desired RPM. Then I would say you have a rod bearing or crank bearing talking to you. Start the bike and pull the front plug wire if it gets worse then its your front rod bearing, do the same with the rear cylinder. Hope that helps

All is well! I cleaned up the rotor and put everything back together and no more noise! The built up metal shavings must have been causing the rotor to rub on the stator. Was able to get out and ride today!thanks for all the support, hope I can return the favor someday.
