Battery overcharging and control module and other module fried for the second time. The modules have the part # 13013 & 13014 on them. Just spent $1000.00 replacing them both and a new battery. The battery was hissing and vapor was coming out and about to blow up it was so hot. The blinkers do not work and the brake light is on. The horn also blows when I turn on the switch. Second time this has happened to me. Its getting old and expensive. Any help or advice is appreciated.Chad35614@yahoo.com is my email address.

Minimial info here for anyone to really offer some help.
What makes you think that you are overcharging? Have you tested using a volt meter? You should be in the 14.2-14.6 range'sih. Regardless, just going on what you have in your post I would just suggest that you test the Voltage Regulator if you think your overcharging. Search "Voltage Regulator Test" in the forum it should pop up.

just so you will be aware, there was a problem with the voltage regulators that were used back in '05, '06-early '07. there should be info on it here somewhere, just use the "search" feature on the toolbar at the top of the page.

I agree sounds like the VR may have gone south....
This is the e-mail sent to the shop that worked on my bike>>>>. We rode Saturday afternoon. This is the first time I have ridden the bike since I got it back .. We pulled into a store after I felt the seat getting hot and smelling something burning. The battery was overheating and the black boxes that was replaced, (I think its called it a function control module ,part # 's 13013&13014), was smoking and about the catch fire. I pulled out the battery and took the hold-down screw out of the module because I was afraid it would catch the bike on fire. The battery was extremely hot, and so was the module. I cooled the battery down with ice. When the battery and the module was cool, I put the battery in and turned the switch on. The horn started blowing and all the lights came on. I disconnected a wire on one leg of the horn. I did not attempt to start the bike. The same thing that it did before. None of the blinkers work and the brake light stays on. Same things as before.I called my friends to bring a trailer to come and get me.(40 miles). I need to find out what is going on with this bike. I'm sure that it is possible to have replaced the old, damaged modules with new "bad" or "faulty" modules. Installed two different modules and a new battery and a new headlight bulb.($1010.45 worth) By you having a reputable shop, I'm sure you will help me. What did the shop do for $1000.00, just replace the fried components and NOT determine the cause of the failures?
Was the battery replaced with a recommended "AGM" type battery?
Possible bad NEW battery...precharge the next new battery as recommended to check condition before installing it.

Your bike is not EFI, so that elliminates the S&S EFI controller.

"160 amp battery"??????? anything less than 310 amps is too weak!!!!!!!!!!! MUST have at least 270 amps.
