Headlight out, but on?

Ok Guys and Gals,

I've got a really good question to pose to those of you that have had headlight issues with your dogs in the past.

Has anyone out there, ever had their headlight just go very, very dim, to the point of being almost non-existent, but still illuminated a little bit, rather than just going out altogether? Like it's on a dimmer switch before the light goes all the way out!

If so, what was the culprit that caused this type of problem?

Answers greatly appreciated. :2thumbs:

These bikes vibrate so much that if your dimmer switch isn't snug, it will vibrate to the lowest setting......just before turning off. :spank::spank:

Now, you deserved that. Seriously, why do they say not to handle the glass part of the bulb prior to placing it into the housing? Does is cause the glass to burn? Could the glass "burn" where a oily fingerprint had been and become semi-porous letting a small amount of O2 come in contact with the element, slowly eroding it until it finally gives way? That's my guess!

I guess something else that could happen is the bulb is vibrated loose from the base setting and air/moisture could also enter that way.

Bad ground, like the others, within the EHC. Only yours still has a very little bit of voltage still leaking through.

I think Jake is right with the bad ground idea. however, I would check inside the bucket first. Especially if it doesn't have the modified ground coil wire.

That ground coil does nothing! Actually is just makes the problem worse because the ground wire is now 12" longer and long grounds are a NO, NO. They were just trying to filter some noise that was getting into the EHC with that.

I think BDM figured that out and no longer puts that coil in the bucket. The dealer removed my coil way back in 2007 after the second plug meltdown. They were told to remove it. Never had a meltdown since. Also the last time I hade the headlight apart I installed a ceramic plug and a chassis ground to the bucket, not that I needed it with the HID and Wire-Plus, but figured it couldn't hurt.
