Hauling your Big Dog in a Chevy Short-bed 1500 Silverado

Question to all of the experienced folks out there,
I have a 2010 Bull Dog Bagger, I want to slide it into the back of my Chevy Short-bed 1500 for a long trip down south. Bed length from front to rear of the gate is 93"'s. The bike from front tire to mid or rear tire is almost 93"'s. I'm thinking of buying a ramp and riding it in and then doing the necessary tie-downs etc...What are other peoples experiences? I have a trailer but not real interested in hauling it the distance I'm going. Give me your thoughts,issues, idea's and of course, any pics too! Thank you in advance.

I used to haul my Roadking to Daytona from NY every year.
Heres what I came up with: Take a piece of 3/4 plywood from center of plywood measure out 3 inces each way 6 inches total ( your tires might be wider) then from the back screw 2 - 2 x3s and make a channel for bike to set in for travel.Wheels cant kick out.if tailgate won't close place a 2x4 on edge between the 2x3s as wide as your chanel.
bike is now locked in .
I always used a osha 10' plank as a ramp.Find a berm or raised elevated serface to ride bike straight in .No struggling to push, No angled ramp to dump bike.

You can always find a grocery store or similar and use their ramp to keep from hauling lumber around.

FYI, I bought a set of 12 foot Black Widow ramps at The Black Widow extra long motorcycle ramp which makes loading motorcycles in the bed of my 1999 2500 4X4 six and a half foot bed easy. I measured my bed from the front wall to the end of the tailgate (down) and it was around 99 inches. I am thinking of putting a K-9 (once I build or buy) in the bed and using some carpeted wood under the frame to take some (not all) of the weight off the tailgate once loaded and strapped down.

I have a three wide ramp(clamped together to make one).I ride it onto the truck with no problem,I just go slow and have to stand(take my weight off the bike)at the very top as to not scrape the bottom of the bike on the ramp.My gate actually dips a little in the middle where the rear wheel sits,I've seen someone on here "block up"the bike where the truck bed ends to take the weight off the gate,That's what would do,My:zz2cents:

Hmmmmmmmm. Got me thinking. I heard the gates bend. I'd have most of the weight sitting on the very ass end. Not a good idea. $$$$ Trailer time I'm assuming or buy a new heavier duty truck which aint gonna happen!

I have a dented tailgate from that but now I have a 3/4 inch thick 4' x 4' piece of metal I use under rear tire and no more problems. The tail gate is weak metal happy hauling

Check that the tailgate cables are up to the job. They do break.

I have a Black Widow ramp as someone else here said and a 94 GMC short bed standard cab truck. Drive it right in. I blocked it up under under the frame to keep the weight of the tail gate, pull it down and cruise. Never a problem. You can put a board under the rear tire to help disperse the weight if you wish.....
