Has this ever happened to you?

I turned the key on last night on my k-9 and the starter started cranking all by it's self and the horn was on. I clicked it on and off severl times and the horn finally went off. Has anyone else ever had this issue?

I guessing it's in the start run switch.

Really? I can check voltage. I just assumed it was a short...

the EHC does weird crap when the voltage is low -- one of the major design flaws in the original setup.

Should be at least around 12.8 to have it start properly also when get it started check voltage again it should be charging 13.5-14.03 ish volts

Also, you will want to check voltage while under load. Put your DMM or volt meter on the battery with the key OFF, what is the VDC reading? Then turn key ON and hit the RUN button and press START. While the engine is turning over, what is the VDC reading? Finally, while the engine is running, therefore the charging system is operating, what is the VDC reading?

These are three very important VDC readings that will give more information as to your needed next steps. Let us know your test results.

Thanks again guys! Charged the batt. On 2amp charge and now shows 13+ volts problem solved.

Yeah, when I got my bike after hearing about the nightmares, I chose to hardwire it and get rid of computers, the only downfall to that is that u have to change controls.. but that is my suggestion to all having the typical bdm problems..comes out a lot cheaper in the long run.

Prob right on that. It's been holding 13.1 for the last few days. I have a moto batt in the mastiff that's coming up on. Year old and it's been holding about 12.96.

Here's a tip from DOC during winter storage, or prolong none usage, put the battery tender on a timer for about an hour a day and in the spring when you wanna first ride, put a battery charger on it to give the battery a deep charge.
