Hard starting

Energy One
I know hard starting is a pretty general statement but I'll try to explain. 2008 Mastiff replaced carburetor with brand new super g a month ago. Had issues with EHC and replaced that last week. Exhaust is v&h 2 into 2 big radius with full baffles. Carb has a 32 intermediate and a78 main in it. Problem is when I try to start it I give it a couple twists and it seems to want to crank a lot before it will eventually catch.

I have an 07 Mastiff, on a cold start, 3 full twists and it starts right up, when warm just hit the start switch. I would suggest a little more fuel on the cold start.

Pull the enricher up until it starts and then put it down right away and keep it running with the throttle.

I would say..first try adjusting your carb. Idle/Air mix is probably a little off. And might need to go up a touch on the idle.

No Idea if there is something wrong with my Dogs, but both start after months of standing with 2 or 3 twists like they have been running a minute ago. Well -03 with original pipe likes to start with nice bang and a feet of flames from pipes after 3 twists. Both run nice idle right away. I believe my spark plugs are original . So I'd say when carbs are on spot and battery full these s&s engines start easier than any engine I've ever had.

Update on the starting. Bike seems to start best doing nothing. No throttle twist. No enricher. Just push start. I've attached a photo of my rear plug after about a 40 mile ride. Any opinions?

When mine is cold, I twist the throttle only a half as you can hear the accelerator pump squirt that fuel in. Then I pull the choke up 3/4 and press the start. Fires right up. I can't imagine anything more then one twist of the throttle when cold. When warm, no throttle and no choke, fires right up.

What carb are you running with a choke plate in it?
