My 08 k9 efi has sit in my garage for over a year now. Got it out last week and drained the gas and put in a new battery and it started up. I am having an issue with all the handlebar switches. I assume they have a moisture issue from sitting up so long. Sometimes I can press hard and move around on different parts of the switches and they will work. Never had this issue before it sit up so long. Is there any way to clean the board or do the switch boards need to be replaced . Having the issue with all switches on both sides. Thanks for any help.

Spraying a little WD40 will help displace the moisture. If you can pull the boards out, look for corrosion on the connection points or anywhere on the boards. You can use isopropyl alcohol and a soft bristled toothbrush to clean the board and connection points. There should be enough conformal coating on the board itself, so more than likely the problem would be the connection points. However doing a good clean on the entire board won‘t hurt. Just be gentle, the older the boards, the more fragile. Once you get the board/points clean and dry, use a little dielectric grease on the connections. This will defiantly help keep the moisture out. Hope this helps.

After they are clean and working. You can coat them with clear nail polish. Let it dry before use.

So you are saying spray a little wd 40 under the buttons. I wanted to try something before taking them apart. I had all that off before when I sent it off to be chromed. I know getting it all back together can be a pain especially on the front brake side.

The pc boards are sealed, but yes they can draw moisture, and corrode. You will be money ahead to replace them, because once you peel back the seal to clean them, the problem will return sooner. Use dielectric grease on the plug when you put it back together.

If you decide to replace HDM does carry the 2021 updated version hand control PCB switches for 2004-2011 models

Due to the way the controls are made, it would be difficult to spray under the buttons. I would loosen the control up so that you can spray the WD40 inside the controls. Just have a rag ready for the drips.
