Had a Homer Simpson moment

Damn do I feel stupid. Well I was servicing the dog today, gonna chg oil, clean my K&P filter scavenge it, tighten my primary, chg the primary fluid, you know normal stuff. Finished up, on the primary, drained and filled the oil, cleaned the tappet screen, pulled the crank sensor & cleaned it, pulled the K&P off and cleaned it, hooked up the scavenger to get the rest of the dirty oil out. Went to crank and damn, won't turn over, hit a second time, still won't turn over. Now I'm gettin pissed, didn't touch anything electrical. OK now here it comes, you've probably figured it out already, the damn crank sensor... I didn't install it back in. Now after trying twice to turn it over oil has sprayed out all over my front fender, my tire my rim, and worse the damn brake rotor and pads. Saw the error of my ways put it back in and imagine that, starts right up. Finished with he scavenger, wiped the oil off the fender, tightened everything up went for a ride. Everything's ok, 'cept now I gotta really clean the bike up to get the rest of the oil off. The front brakes suck now for stopping since oil got on the pads. Can I just spray brake clean on them, or just keep using them till it wears off? Plz tell me someone else has done this before, or tell me the dumbest maintenace ENHANCEMENT you've done, so I won't feel so stupid.:bang::bang::bang:

Years ago I changed a set of back brake shoes on a Friends car put the tire back on he got in and didn't have any brake peddle (adjust the self adjuster right?) Well I crawled under the car ran the adjuster in. Still no brake peddle! What the hell? Crawled back under the car ran the adjuster way in still no dam brake peddle! I picked my beer up took a drink and set it back down on the brake drum duh:bang: By this time I had the adjuster way out so the drum wouldn't slide over the shoes had to loosen it way way up after that all was good.:2thumbs::loony:

Amen on beer and brake jobs not mixing! I have a vivid memory of the time my dad mixed the two on my mothers car. Went down the road to test his work and when he put on the brakes they threw the car sideways into a ditch, hit a drain pipe, flipped the car upside down and landed on its top. Totalled the car, put his head halfway through the windshield(not wearing seatbelt), left him unconsious and mom without a car to follow the ambulance(she could not drive the straight shift in his truck). Lesson learned: don't mix beer and brake jobs!!!

I changed the filter and drained the oil in the sump and tank in my roadstar. Filled the tank and started the bike to fill the sump.

I for got to put the dipstick back in.

Mount Vesuvius erupted and covered, me the ceiling and the bike with oil.

After I got cleaned up, I went to the store in my truck to get simple green and kitty litter.

I spent an two hours cleaning the bike and the garage.

And get this.....I did an accelerated engine break in, so this was the first day I owned the bike!

I sure learned a lot stripping the whole bike down that night. :bang:

as far as oil coating the pads. my rear bearing on my 4runner went out and let the gear oil soak the shoes on that side and after about 20000 miles those shoes still seep oil out of them. rear brake dont do that much so I havent changed them yet.

Hey Snake, i wasn't even doing any thing as nobel as real maintenance work, I was just waxing my bike, rolled the bike forward some to get out of the sun, and managed to crush the bottle of liquid wax with he front tire squirting it all over the front tire, brakes, fender. Yeah. felt pretty smart about right then.

As far as oil on your brakes, I'd clean them real good with some brake parts cleaner. Maybe even pull the pads out first to be sure to get it all clean good. Oh and I can tell you that waxing the brake parts is not the thing to do.
