This is what happens when you put in a big cam and springs. It really tears up the lifters. This bike had only 5k on it when the lifter came apart and now he has to tear the whole motor apart to get all the bearings out.

Well it doesn't happen to everyone. I have a big ass cam "Woods 650" Kit with came with springs. I didn't want the engine to float the valves at me at high RPMS so I installed the Jims Hydro Solid lifters which work like solid lifter at RPMS above 5500 or so RPMS and Hydraulic under the 5500 RPM range. I love them they work great. :2thumbs:

I have a 600 cam in my 107" S&S. Had the same problem at 21,000 miles. Had to replace cam and lifters. Added HL2T limiters to new lifters. They keep lifters from floating at high rpms and make starting easier.

No, look at this. I'd change the other 3 lifters as well, plus the lifter housings. Rub both hands together, which one stayed cold? Score line both parts together, which one did not take out a tolerance and lose 1/2 that side? I install it back into a half worn part I could have taken up that tolerance side too.

Make $ense?

Yikes! I'm also running a .600 in my 107 with upgraded springs. I replaced my lifters with around 20-25k miles on them with Fueling lifters (per Andrew's advice) but the S&S lifters in there still seemed pretty decent too.

Like KnotSo I'm curious about what motor and cam.

I think Sven is suggesting that the tappet block was possibly worn and the lifter fit a bit looser than was desirable.

Either way this is scary would just like to know a bit more to know what to watch out for. I don't really want this to happen to mine :eek:

It's a 107 S&S with a 600 cam and spring set. S&S recommends replacing the stock lifters on a stock motor every 20k but I had a 96 ci and ran it over 200k on stock lifters with no problems.

I think if you don't push the bike too hard you will be alright but a lot of guys push it on every gear and that's tough on a bike. Also, it could have been just a bad lifter from the start. He said he heard a tick, tick noise for awhile but didn't check it out.

If everything is done , and checked PROPERLY, a big cam will not cause a lifter to self destruct. :2thumbs:
I have to say that I see a lot of non-knowers whip in any cam, and the shit hits the fan. 200,000 miles on a lifter set, and you are most certainly looking for problems. :bang:

Absolutely, as do several other brands.
That's why Woods recommends their lifters.(It's all about doing/using things that's in the fine print).
