After this past weekend trip and getting to a few rural areas without data service on my cell I looked into downloading google Maps. To my pleasant surprise they just released an update that allows for a download.

Simply go into Google and in the menu you can select offline areas. You can download as many areas as you want but they limit a single area to 120,000sq KM.

The Maps expire in 29 days unless your on a WIFI connection to receive updates.

I thought this was a great way to prepare for a trip! Can't tell you how many times I've been somewhere and needed a map. Try to find a map at a gas station these days is a feat.

Good find..... Rode the Blue Ridge Parkway in June and a lot of area's did not have cell service. I needed Google Maps a couple of times in the Smokies (do a lot of back roads) and no service. Thanks Eric

I use CO Pilot by ALK -- available for iPhone or Android -- DL the entire USA normally. 10 bucks and you get voice directions.
I send the music to the bluetooth and the GPS speaks ever when I have a turn.) Well worth the money.
