The Ford dealer 20 miles south of me closed last Thursday, was a BIG dealership. Had been in business 59 years. Heard rumor today that my local Chrysler/ Dodge dealer got a letter today. Also saw on CNN news yesterday that 78% of current car sales are used cars.

Wow. If these dealers were profitable, WTF is next?
When you make a deal with the devil....

Think about it... 'profitable' dealerships all around the country being shut down -why?

Two of the big three in the process of 'restructuring' or being eliminated all together... the only thing remaining relatively unscathed... unions - why?

Unions will end up owning over 54% of the remaining Chrysler company at the expense of the true owners - the creditors, bondholders and shareholders - why?

Already union lobbyists are pushing that Chrysler and GM could be profitable companies again "if" their health care costs were eliminated - now why would that be such a big issue?

Obama wants nationalized health care. He and the liberals do not care what has to be destroyed in order to get it.... Those of you in the unions (and I feel for you) are being used for the biggest takeover in the history of this Republic...

Pay attention or we will all lose everything this country has ever stood for....

Living in the epicenter of US Auto outside of Detroit is tough - many family and friends unemployed in a state where there are few jobs and it is almost impossible to sell your home. tough times for many.

Very well said sir! We are in the process of losing it all right now...

At least Chrysler is being straight up and made the list available publicly after the dealers had been notified. GM is pissing me off...they are keeping the closures confidential. At this point even the other dealers do not know if the guy down the street or across town is staying open or not...the only info they are able to get is about themselves. This has the potential to be much more hazardous, because if you do not know the score, you do not know how to plan for your future. Operating on incorrect assumptions rarely gets anyone ahead, or makes them successful.

GM is being a bunch of douchebags for doing things this way in my humble opinion, and many more people stand to be hurt because of it.

TRUE COLORS COLLISION
i have a bodyshop in baltimore maryland, and what has allready started trickling my way has been the fact that when people have been wreckin their cars 50% of them aint gettin them fixed and are bankin the checks...because they dont know whats happening with the economy, the second part is whereas i would call for parts and usually receive within 1 or 2 days ,well most the dealerships are not stockin as much parts no longer...why tie up their money when they can just order it and it take a little longer yet dont have to use their bankroll...the part i dont understand is if a dealership is profitable then why shut it down????????isnt the idea here to sell the product????????i am sure this discussion could go on for days and bring up much pain..my heart goes out to all that are directly affected hard by the fall of the big3.....

I also live in a big 3 manufacturing town and it's hurt us.:(
GM, Ford & Chrysler still want to sell vehicles but why would anyone their right mind buy one if they aren't sure if their selling dealer will be open next week....WTF?

Here in Rochester NH Dick Poulin Chevy got the axe.

"Dick Poulin Chevrolet Needs Your Help!
On Friday, May 15th, General Motors notified us they were not going to renew our dealer agreement when it expired in the Fall of 2010. This came as a shock to us since we are located in the 4th largest city in the state with easy access from the Seacoast and the Lakes Region. Also, Mr. Poulin has over 30 years of service with the Chevrolet nameplate. Additionally, we currently employ over 45 people whose families depend on us. General Motors has given us a very brief window in which we may appeal. This is where we are calling on you, our frineds and customers, to help us!"

If it wasn't for the unions you would not be making the wage you are! For every 1 union auto worker there are 9 other jobs that affected by them. There is no such thing as a $45 per hr janitor.

Another round please
Unions did not make this country great as non unions did not either. It was everyone that worked hard for a honest wage. You will always have union employees thinking they are better than non union and visa versa. Its a fact union jobs tend to pay more, have better benefits sometimes. My buddy thats in a union though has beed laid off more times that you can shake a stick at. I myself am non union and have never been unemployed. Many pros and cons for both. I do believe unions have driven up the cost of many products in the USA. Thats why alot of stuff is made outside of the USA. It has been known that many Union leaders were and are very corrupt. They pay huge cash to lobbiests to get what they want and our leaders in Gov can be bought. Its sad to see anyone unemployed but the costs of everything has got so high something had to give. In 20 years, will our sales tax be 15 to 20% just to keep our states running and pay our over paid state employees? Something has to break. It cost the the Gov alot to run a great country. I tend to believe one day the people will get fed up and revolt against the Gov. Its bound to happen. No one wins if you lose a job. I hope the best for everyone.
