Gas Tank Liner Repair?

Anyone know a vendor that will strip a deteriorating liner out of my gas tanks and reline? Big Dog in CT says I need to go to a company that uses aircraft stripper and they don't do it because of chemical disposal issues. The ethanol ate up the lining in my tanks and Big Dog is of no use in terms of the repair. Other users with older bikes must have had this issue as well.
2001 Pitbull.

Any suggestions welcome. The tanks are off the bike and it sits idle...
Not good with Spring here!
Thanks in advance!

Thanks Everyone that posted so far. I'm looking to have this done by a pro because I'm too paranoid about getting solvents on the paint and chemical disposal issues. I did get a kit from KBS coatings but then decided against trying it and sold it on eBay.

My lining is like half off on both tanks. It's all flaked in the bottom of the tank and there is no easy way to get it all out without using a solvent. Then you still need to remove what is left of the old liner that is still adhered, or the new liner won't hold where the old liner still exists. Major pain in the butt. So aggravating I regret buying this money pit.

Your very welcome
FYI ..They give a life time warranty on the liner and guaranty that they won't ruin your pain job.

They are a little slow and pricey..But...I feel you get what you pay for...I think the job they did on my tank was awesome and worth the money
Best of luck

Hi Boris...yes...700 bucks is a major ouch...especially since I have other expenses with the purchase of a home at the end of this month that needs its own work. But everyone else I talk to is in the 200-300 range but want to do things that will jeopardize the paint. So it is the necessary of 2 evils. Getting ready to ship out to him on Monday.

Thanks again Boris.

Mike - george did my tank and he's the best. Won't damage your paint and stands behind his work. All the local buildrs use him. Well worth the money.

Yup, I agree, George and Fuel Tanks Services do an awesome job. I took mine to him on March 17th and picked up on March 26th. I let it sit for a few more days to let it cure. Need to add a few days if you have to ship it but George takes real good care of your tank or in my case tanks.

My 08 Mastiff is currently in the shop getting a new tank liner. I went through the dealer since mine is still under warranty until November.

Here's a photo of some of the tank liner on the ground after draining the tank and pulling the petcock. I'm told the new (improved) tank liner will be yellow.

edit: sorry if you see multiple reposts. The site kept stalling as I was trying to reply. Hopefully I deleted the extra reposts.

Fuel Tank Svcs???SERVICE???

I sent the tanks down there in Ft Lauderdale in early April.
He claims they got damaged by UPS but he can't show me damage to the boxes and I spent over 50 buck in packing materials. I think one of his clowns dropped one right on the pointed end.

Every week that has gone by he claims they will ship next Friday! This has been for the last 2 weeks.

Still don't have my tanks...he's had them for 30 days+...why would he say a 10 day turnaround when it takes a month...when I get them back they better be pristine...I am totally unsatisfied...but u know he cashed the check for 700 within 3 days, and got my tanks to hold hostage...DON'T MAKE PROMISES U CANNOT KEEP.
He doesn't get my support just for that...lying to me when he knew better.

Bad reference and advice. I would have been better off to buy new tanks and have them painted.

If you keep gas in your tank at all times and dont let it sit for long periods of time without ,the tank will not deteriorate due to excessive rusting will it????
I thought the very top post from Boris specifically says....VERY SLOW.....

If your liner is pealing where do you think the liner is going? It's traveling into your tank, through your fuel line, into the carb, etc...and it's not good for the bike. If you're going to do without at least have it removed professionally. Just my 2 cents.

Did you drain the tank and pull the petcock to see if liner is on your fuel screen inside the tank you can also add a fuel filter. I myself agree with you about doing liner yourself I never got it to work good. I have run bikes with out any liner in the tanks and never had a problem.

If you plan on running it like that (which I wouldn't) you should at least run a fuel filter.

Ya when I removed the vent tube I pulled some pretty good size pieces of liner out.already had a fuel filter installed. Was worried about my xxx taz. But I still cleaned it out found nothing. So just didn't want any more down time although I did pull and drain tank again just to check for any more liner. Clean but like I said I've bought new tanks and had them painted without any liner and no problems..but was away from motorcycles for awhile and maybe things changed..so is it gonna rust? I ride it every week maybe sometimes it sets when fucking with it... Next lay over is wireplus and Dakota speedo.I'll do the liner if needed but if only to protect from sitting long periods then I'll just ride it..Z

I have been told since I would have been better off to remove the old liner and leave the tank without a liner...leaving gas in it will prevent rust...make sure you get it all out before it causes carb issues...
