Gas cap

Has anyone else had issues with the gas cap swelling/ hardening due to the E85? Any solution on upgrades of fixes would be greatly appreciated. I literally had to borrow a set of pump pliers to get mine off the last time I got gas.

I dont know of any fix. Once ethanol is introduced, its all downhill from there. However to remedy the same situation, I purchased a gas cap add-on that fixed my problem. It mounts via 3 set screws. Its not a great pic but this is it. I paid $25 about 4 years ago.

Get with Mr Wright, and get the paint saver set up. It has a ratcheting gas cap, so no over tightening, and does not swell.

If the paint is still in good shape, you can just get a new cap, but chances are that it happen again eventually. The only permanent fix is to remove the paint-saver and go with a harley cap, or go to something all metal, like what I have. Mr. Wright's fix is nice too.

Thank you! Do you remember the name of the manufacturer?

On on my second cap with the same issues. Who makes that cap? That’s great!!
It's a guy in Ukraine that makes them. He has a lot of different styles. He is on ebay. Just do a search for big dog gas cap. They aren't cheap. There is a guy here in the states that imports them. You can get them faster from him for a little more money.

I thought I had posted in this thread about having a spare stock gas cap. I have one in good shape from a K9. If you can't find what you need, let me know.

Thank you brother
Welcome! If you do get one, make sure he puts a tank vent in it. I think he usually does. I didn't need one because I have a 2 piece tank and a vent under the dash. Also, take all of the acorn nuts off and put a dab of loctite on the screws. I caught a couple of them starting to back off. If it doesn't line up straight when you put it in the tank, get a thicker or thinner o-ring under the cap. Other than that, they are great and I get a lot of compliments on them.

My original BD cap looked cheap it let water in and was not level on the tank so cut it out and put a lockable vented aircraft style cap in it and looks the biz filler cap.jpg
