Gas Cap / Paint Saver

So another stupid question probably in a series of stupid questions. I've been looking at different gas caps and been reading threads on paint savers. I have a very small section of paint beginning to bubble around my gas cap.

My cap just screws directly into the gas tank clockwise. I don't have a metal ring around the threads. Did the previous owner already remove the paint saver or am I confused to what it actually is / like.

It's a 2008 Mutt.

Don't know if your bike came with one or not. It is certainly missing and if I was you I would get one, may save you a paint job later on. :old2:

Difficult to tell unless you post a photo with the cap unscrewed and off; then we can see insert.

Big Dogs use the Landmark gas cap with paint saver. (All inclusive in the packageing if you were to buy it new from Landmark)

I had to redo mine because of incorrect installation after new paint; paint bubbles appeared immediately -- never spilled a drop of gas...

Long story short -- best fix was to put "Mr. Wright's" custom made oversize paint saver ring on underneath the standard Landmark paint saver ring and RTV silicone seal.

I will post a how to thread with photos.

Just been busy but know very well of this problem and the FIX !

Upper part of photo shows basic Landmark Gas Cap, Paint Saver.
Lower part of photo shows "Mr. Wrights" custom made Larger Paint Saver Ring

PS: Lowell have you seen us at San Diego Harley?
Sundays around noon to 1:00p we are the Big Dog, BBC and Thunder Mountain custom bikes -- aka SoCal riders group...

If you do put a paint saver ring on make sure to coat the paint under it with K-2 clear so it doesn't peel anymore.
