Has anyone redone the tank liner?
My 03 Chopper has a very expensive custom paint job and I'm concerned about damaging the finish while trying to clean and redo the tank liner. Any ideas are welcomed! Tank liner or no liner. Caswell product?

Caswell is what I used to reline my wife's tank. She has a $5k custom paint job. The directions tell you to wrap the tank in plastic celephane, then wrap in aluminum. That's how I did it and no problems. Be sure to plug your lines on the bottom that equalize the tanks. I used long chop stix, went down through the gas fill hole and had about 3" sticking out the top. Mix your liner up, put it and let is set just a few minutes, then pull your sticks out before it hardens. The liner itself works great. Easy to do. Just a pain to get all the prep done.

I've redone mine with Kreem products;

How to Kreem Your Tank

they have a plastic coating to cover existing paint work to protect it from the process. Used their tank etching and cleaning product with a handful of bolts to clean out the old liner.

Been really happy with the results after more than a year. The time is all in the prep of the tank.....

As for the old liner, I went to Lowe's and purchased a little device that is about 2' long and 1/4 diameter. It has a push button on the end so when you push, 4 small grabbing wires open on the end. Let the plunger go and the wires grab anything close to pull through the gas tank opening. Once you get all the big stuff out, I used 10 big wood screws and drop them in the tank along with acetone. Shake up hard and use an extending magnet to take the screws out. Then I used a shop vac to get out the debris. Note: put about 2 inches of water in the shop vac to dilute the acetone. Do this 2 or 3 times to get it all out. Then you're ready for chop stix and liner. The Caswell is formulated for the ethenol gas that is used today.
