I just received the new tribal forward controls.
How do I get the bushings inside them? I've tried and it's a no go

thanks

Well, I had my neighbor take them to work to press them in.
I'm curious what anyone else has done

TCALZ - I'm not clear on the problem. Mine slide right out of the old ones, I cleaned them up and they went right into the new control arms as shown in the directions attached to the back of the card. I'm working with an '04 -- maybe there was a change to the bushings later?

Yeah they should just slide apart. Are you talking about the sleeve on the inside of the control arms? Maybe you're were kinda rusted in?

I'm talking about the new arms. When they come you have to put the new bushings in that come with them.
I didn't even try to use the old ones

Well I never replaced mine with new ones... but I do remember the bushing that the sleeve slides into. Are we talking about the same thing?

That does suck when you're not expecting it.

You got NEW bushings! I feel abused -- I got no new bushings?!?!?

Seriously though, that is part number 13 on the parts list of the right and left assembly. Is that the part you are talking about TCLAZ?

ya I think it was part #13. It's a sleeve that has a split in it and it goes into the
new arm. It has a teflon coating on the inside.

My neighbor pressed them in last night but I think I have another problem. I'm going home to work on it now

I found the directions on the back side of the board they were shipped on
but the directions don't say anything about how they are installed. Just to check the teflon coating in the bushings

TCALZ -- Yep, we're talking the same part then. Mine were able to slide right out. I recommend checking the housing for rust or gauling. I know I soaked and cleaned up the assembly before putting it back together.

Thanks but these are new parts
I'm looking in my manual and the bushing is either #4 or #31 depending on the side you're working on.

Also, my old bushings don't push out either. I had to have my neighbor take the parts tonight to take the new bushings back out because when I tried using rubber mallet to tap them in I must have tweaked them enough that the cylinder #5 or #26 doesn't slide easy into them and is very tight. I'm having him put my old bushings in the new arms. The only other thing we can come up with is that the chrome adds some material that the polished doesn't have which makes the tolerance tighter.

So has anyone installed the chrome ones yet? I'm also surprised that no one has had to have their old bushings pressed out????????

TCal - can you post a pix - or anyone who has installed them? We did a dry fit with mine and it seems they lean forward about 7 degrees more than stock, which could make for braking issues.

If you have them please post some feedback. :)

I didn't breakout no protractor to measure it, but mine too are rotated further. For me it works better and I like the look. I'm running the Vision polished levers.

I'll post some pics over the weekend. My neighbor who took my old arms to work pressed out the bushings and said they came out much easier.
He took out the original set of bushings in my new arms and they came out harder than when he put them in. It's got to be from the chroming. Tolerance is different for the bore. I would strongly advise anyone doing these to have them pressed in and have a extra set of bushings because they are a biotch to get in.
BDM should have these put in after they chrome.

My neighbor works for a local power company and they have a pretty nice shop and their press is no joke to give you a little more info

I also discovered another problem putting everything back together tonight. The main arm #24 has a bad internal thread for Screw #30 so I have to get a very small tap tomorrow and see if I can fix it.

Also the 3 small Screws #30 for the left control are a weird size allen wrench. It appears to be a 3.5mm. Neither 3mm,4mm or 1/8" work
Anyone else confirm this? I'm going to replace these tomorrow too.

I don't know about wierd size allens. Everything on the dog is standard coarse sizes. And chasing out threaded holes after chrome is VERY common. Done that with BDM and browns.

I agree the holes could or should be chased after the chrome but the threads are damaged and not because there is chrome in them

Got everything on yesterday and put about 150 miles on it.
The angle is different as mentioned and is going to take a while to get used too.
The Pegs and controls added a lot to the looks. I will post pics tomorrow
But I'm very happy with the upgrade
