I think it's awesome that so many of the forum members are former service people. Check out the Poll they're taking man, 68% and climbing. Makes a body proud to be able to associate with the likes of these people.

I was assigned to military for the Nuke program. Waiting for bootcamp and currently scheduled for March, but might get there sooner if a spot opens.

Good for you Luther. I spent 30s years on nuclear powered submarines. Have fun and make it an adventure

The Nam Vets would not agree with that one.
Are you saying that the Nam Vets did not appreciate the support from Great Americans, or do you mean that unfortunately not enough of them were there supporting the military to ovecome the way too many Americans that were not?????

Veteran's

My dad was with the 6th Marines on Eniwetok, Kwajalein, and Guadalcanal. Both my Grandfather's and father in law Coast Guard (then Department of Navy), in the South Pacific.
My oldest son did four years as a Sub-Mariner, and myself 2&1/2, tours on the Mekong Delta, Mobile Riverine Force, River Assault Flotilla One.
The Irony of all this is that my first grandchild was born an Veterans day, November 11. May be God's way of saying thank you!:flag:
I have always felt that anyone who has served are my true brothers, and sisters.
And NO, Americans never really appreciated the Vietnam veteran, until recently. It was unpopular then and sometimes forgotten now.

What I'm saying is that yes not enough great Americans did not support the Vietnam troops, during that time. It was obvious the "in the spotlight people IE; Jane Fonda, Joan Baez, etc. painted us as "BABY KILLERS" and other horrific names, which gave us all returning home a more than difficult time fitting back into the civilian society.
Don't get me wrong I myself am against the war right now, but I'll be damned, if I won't support every American service man an woman fighting it.
I think America may have leaned that, if any good came out of Vietnam, this important lesson.
When I came home after more than two tours on the Mekong, I couldn't get a job for more than a year and couldn't figure out why, until I realized that on my applications I was putting down I was a returning Vietnam Vet.
The first application I deleted that fact I was hired IMMEDIATELY!!
That's what Americans thought about us from the picture that was painted.
