Fork Caps

2nd hint for the day. Learned this one from the head mechanic at the dealer up here in Washington. After owning two Big Dogs and putting lots of miles on them in all types of weather I learned that the fork caps hold all kinds of things like water, oil grime or whatever gets in them.
Knotso was at the house the other day and I remembered to pull the caps and about a 1/4 cup of water came spilling out onto the floor. I used a paper towel to clean up the cavity around the seals and now no more ugly stains on my forks. I'll bet most people don't even know that the caps came off!

Later,
Ray

Yup, you sure surprised me, Raywood - I just assumed it was all one well-formed piece!

Can you loosen the caps by hand or do you need some type of strap wrench?

Nice which model Sub and year? Is it quickset? I collect them is probably why I noticed it.

Mine will not break loose. I probably need to pick up one of those rubber strap wrenches to get them loose without damaging them.
Anyother Ideas to get them broke free?

Just break em loose. You have caps over them anyway don't ya? Does it really matter if you scratch the chrome? I have a rubber strap wrench, and I'm not sure that wouldn't screw em up anyway.
