Fluid being pushed through Vent on Primary?

What would cause primamry fluid to come out the little vent hole in the primary? It was filled with 32 ounces.

Does this silicon gasket look correct? Or does it need to have a notch in it for a breather as well?

I only ask because there is a spot for what looks like air should pass. I have not had any leaks from this inpsection cover just the back side vent.

The vent is on the back side of the inner primary near the top. It is a small button head style that gets clogged very easy. Make sure it is not clogged. Then make sure that the transmission fluid is not getting into the primary and causing it to become over filled. Easy to check by checking the trans fluid level. The vent on the primary inspection cover you posted is not even used on later models and it does not have to be there so long as the button vent is in place and working. Be careful though I have seen a few 05 models that dont have the button vent at all even though it was supposed to be there.
Call me or PM me if I can be of any help.

I do have the button on mine as I checked it before. Thats the place its blowing primary fluid out of. It is just crazy to me that I am getting fluid pushed out if there and making a mess.

Could be an engine crankshaft seal allowing crankcase pressure into the primary case. Don't know for sure if it's even possible to have this happen and not get primary oil mixed in with the engine oil as well. Just a thought.

Bobby: "The vent is on the back side of the inner primary near the top." (upper rear top corner backside of primary case facing trans.)

How do you know the primary vent is clear?

Take a look at this earlier post I put together.

Might be a possibility here,, i had a big bike that would occassionally push a little oil out the vent. it was recommended to get a hose fitting that would thread into this vent, install a short hose with a very small breather on it, hose would go upward from vent, and this stopped the misting / dripping. this was in a non obvious area on that particular bike, unsure of where your vent is so it might or might not be a possiblity. opposing to that, next thought would be maybe it is slightly too much oil?
Hope it helps,,,

My 05 didn't have the button vent on the primary so I installed one. My problem was that the primary oil was being pushed back through the starter saturating the windings. I have installed a 1/8" hose fitting on the back side of the primary near the top with a hose venting underneath the bike. So far no leaks. I will post what I did after this weekends ride to Thunder Beach if there is still no leaks.

Is it bad enough to drip? Check the fluid levels on the primary/trans and get back to us.
You can see the residue of the fluid on the backside of the primary right at the button vent. It does not drip it puddles after riding. The puddle comes from the fluid that has already come out while riding but once that comes off it does not leak.

I hope to see you at Thunderbeach as I am going as well. I think I may put a fitting on my vent hole and run a hose on it for now just to keep the fluid off the rest of my bike. I have notices if I do not ride hard it does not make such a mess but if I really get on the bike its a mess for sure.

If you do run the hose then I would just RTV the crap out of the inspection cover and seal it off for good.

What kind of fluids are you using on the trans / primary?
I was running B&M trickshift but the clutch started slipping. I am switching back to a non-synthetic. I am picking a bandit clutch from a member this weekend and will run what they recommend after I put that in.

Took the button out today and replaced it with this:

I hope it vents better and at the very least keeps the mess of my bike. Could not find a silver elbow local so had to go brass.

Trick shift will foam up when it gets hot enough. That may be all that caused it. I agree with the vent you installed. I put them on quite a few bikes and they will work without ever getting clogged.

I brought it up to a couple local bike shops about synthetic chain/clutch oil and they said not to use it as well. I know others have been fortunate enough to use it, I know I am not one of those fortunate ones.

The little button vent that was on the bike is small enough that a bug could clog it up. I understand it does not need ot be that big but I am sure it almost to small though.

Sorry for the delay, been out of the country for awhile. Its not that hard to do. Just disconnect the battery and unbolt the starter. You may have to remove the pipes to access the starter. There is probably a post somewhere do a search in the "how to" section and see what you can find.

Its all good so far... pull that dude off and preceded to tear it down to find allot of the seals were bad... and fixed the clutch hub nut to.. tighten chain, changed oil, fixed wires, fixed side panels, checked air pressure, cleaned entire bike...bla bla bla LOL!!!:roll::roll: It turned out to be a good weekend after all... the "Get to know your K9" weekend!!
