The shaft is hardened. What would you use to drill it? I have had mine come loose twice now. And thay was with red loctite on it.

just a thought!!! im not sayin drill a 3/8ths hole maybe a 1/16th and go thru the nut and shaft...... just to keep it in place???? I would use a carbide bit

The issue isn't that you'd weaken the shaft, it's that you'll never get a drill bit through the hardened shaft without special tooling. You'll be looking at trying to get a broken bit out of the shaft, and the smaller the bit, the less chance you have of getting it through there. It'd be damn near impossible with a hand drill.

A mechanic told me that the shaft is also hollow and the clutch pushrod goes through it.
I was sittin back just watching to see how long it wood take before somebody come in their and said that. as their haint no way your gonna drill the hardened shaft lesson you pull it .....but getting around the clutch rod wood be an even bigger task the only reel fix has already been dunn and that was to switch to using a compesator as was dunn by BigDog in 08

I had the idea of a ny-lock type nut. But have not had the time to find the right size. Need to check an industrial bolt supply house. This nut coming loose is a problem on some bikes/riding styles... and it can really drive you nuts

You would still have the same thread engagement. I think this is a pretty good idea. Another option is to drill the nut for a set screw.

Lots of red and an air gun. Marked it with a grease pen and it hasn't move a cunt hair. It was a snap-on air gun...maybe you guys need better tools?? :2thumbs::D
