Exhaust Problems again

I guess my bike is just yelling at me. Came home from the Run 21 and pulling off the highway just before home and the bike is not idling very well. Get home and look at it and the mounting bracket is broke again and it broke off both of the rear head studs.

It's the same problem I had in this thread a while back;
http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/dog-pound/7756-bad-night-tonight.html

I'm going to try something different today. I'm going to use a long bolt. I am going to thread on two nuts. Then put the pipe and flange on the head and with the nuts screwed all the way up I'll put the bolt in both sides. Then I can screw down the first nut on each side and when I get them torqued down properly I will bring the second nut down and use it as a jam nut against the first one.

Anyone see a problem with this?

Then I have to come up with a bracket system as I'm going back to my drag pipes. They have been the best pipes I've had so far it's just they burn the hell out of my ankle down on the peg.

hardest part is lining up the bolts thru the flange.

im using socket head allens now since there's not enough room with the 4biddens to get to a socket to a couple of the nuts.

do you have enough of the broken studs sticking out to get ahold of them?

Got a couple of them allens on the metric, got to remove the pipes to change the oil filter and they do work nice,

Ray I've got the fix needed here! :2thumbs:

Just fix the broke studs,
Tell Baby Ray that you just fixed two studs,
And then ask him if he'd like to run along side, "Holding up your pipes so not to brake your studs again"! :2thumbs:

Yep, unlike last time these two broke off at the nut so got enough to grab them with vice grips. I already tried to put two nuts on them but that didn't work so will have to use the ole vice grips. If I remember from the last time I think I had to heat them up to the get them out.

heat will certainly help. sound like there is too much strain on the exhaust studs as a result of the problem bracket. changing to a better pipe/bracket combo will save ya some heart ache later. Ya can always wrap the pipes to solve that there burning sensation!

They are wrapped and ceramic coated..... no good

Got the bottom stud out but not enough room on the top on to get some vice grips on so looks like I'm going to have to dremel out a hole in the center then drill it some and use a easy-out. Always something.

3000+ mile trip starting in 36 hrs so gotta get this one done right and solid.

Thanks for the help all.

I'd try and find a welder to fab up a really beefy bracket that won't break.

Wish I knew how to weld. :D
LMAO, you have a brother who is a welder, have him teach you.

Or even better, just let him do the work.

To bad he is so far away now. I remember him welding up my first set of Stainless Creations in the back yard years ago. That's an old post probably on the old site. :D

You could run over and weld them up for me.
