OK, I finally feel better and thought I'd run this by the "pros"..!!

I finally took the Dawg on a memorial ride Saturday, and I was getting some very unusual popping and cracking from my exhaust when letting off on the throttle. Going down hill with no throttle and just going through the gears, when I let off, he wants to make alot(very audible) of nerve rackng noise.!!! Only thing different from my last ride, putting new left side tank on and Jake's new mesh screen air cleaner cover. I'm kinda bewildered about this new ill. It did not do this, to this extent anyway, before the little bit of work I mentioned. Curious, would the mesh screen, allow more air to the carb allowing it to do this odd popping??

Does the carb need adjusted, rejetted...yadda...yadda...yadda???

It ran good except for an occasional burp when reapplying the throttle after a long downhill grade.

Maybe it's allergic to the red primer I put on the new tank???? :loony:

Just thought I'd see what others could come up with on this one.!!!

not enough time 4 riding
The mesh should be allowing some more air into the carb, so you are probably running a little leaner. I would try some small adjustments of the mixture to see if the problem goes away.

If you have changed anything on your intake it sounds a good bet

you could also double check your exhaust flange nuts to make sure none have worked loose

I agree with Lee....usually loose exhaust nuts.....or may need new exhaust gaskets. Mine work loose more often than they should. Guess that happens when you actually ride!!! lol

I'm going to double mine up like on Gas's thread when I get my bike back

Try going a bit richer on the idle mixture screw....its a easy try and just as easy to return it to old setting if it does not help ...you can even do it riding?
Counter clock wise 1/2- quarter turn just to see if that helps .

Which screw to turn???

After taking the air cleaner off, with backing plate, which screw are we talking about turning counterclockwise????

Idle also needs to be turned up just a bit as it tends to idle so slow, it dies, mainly during a very hot day after a few hours of riding.!!

Gas if someone can't adjust the carb after your " how To" then they definitely need to take it in somewhere for service. If you simply pay attention to your instructions you end up with a smooth running Super G. That simple.

You may be right if for nothing else than all the linked manual and info I put in my thread.
