Exhaust pipe clamps

Are there any better alternatives to worm drive clamps for exhausts? I have a set of hooker rebel widetails and when I look into the pipe from the rear I can see air gaps around two thirds of the pipe which I figure adds to my decel popping. Problem is you cant tighten the worm drive past a certain point or it justs pops out again. I want to try and close the gaps while the pipes are hot and welding them would not be feasible due to the heat shield being in the way where the header pipe meets the back tube.

Can you post pics. so that we can see the problem area.

What would you like pics of Oscar? I'll try to get some when I get home but I have to go out tonight so I might not post them until tomorrow night.

I'm not sure i'm understanding that gap situation that you are coming across. A buddy of mine just installed the same pipes on an AIH Tejas. That way I can run your info. by him and see if he had come across the same problem. Assuming they're kid of the same.

I don't understand either. If the pipes are broken 2/3 around then you need to have them welded up. You can grind down the welds so the clamps will slid over the weld. Why can't you remove the heat shield?

Later,

The rebel wide tails are a two piece pipe and the front half is a pipe that runs from the header into the one piece heatshield for the header pipe and becomes the back end of tail pipe. Where the two pieces meet there is a slip connection that is clamped with a worm drive clamp. The problem is that even when you tighten that clamp as much as possible there is a void around the slip connection between the header and heatshield/back end of tail pipe. I will try to get a pic today and post it to show what I am talking about.

Thanks Sul the torctite looks like it would be perfect to close the gap between the two pipes. I'll have to get out my caliper and measrue the two pipes and see if they make one in those diameters.
