Engine died after flashing hi/low...

I was on a turnpike today, running 70 in a 75 zone and got boxed in by a woman. I was behind her and ended up hitting the hi/low beam a number of times to try to get her to move (I was about to split the lane on her if she didn't).

When I did the hi/low beam several times my engine flat out shut off. It was just like you turned off the key. I have recently put the HID conversion in it, but don't really see how that could be a problem, never-the-less that's what happened. I treated it like a restart, hit the start button and it fired back up. (And my boxed in problem resolved itself).

Is this something to do with my flashing the hi/low beams? I don't recall anything on this site about something like this happening.

Once I got home, with it running, I did the same hi/lo flashing, but did not have it die. I guess it's possible my thumb was hitting the turn signal as well.

Anyone know what happened?

I've never had anything like that----I don't know what to tell you--short maybe?? And I don't see how hitting the turn signal would have anything to do with it.
I take it that this is the first and only time it has done this?:loony:

I mentioned the turn signal possibley getting pushed as I was doing the u/down on the headlight (big gloves).

This just sound like one of those secret code things used by dealers to reset something. Can't be a short as everything was working ok.

I am not saying you did it but I wanted to flash my headlight in traffic and I hit the off/run button:bang:
I didnt know I did it until I cleaned my shorts:roll:
I never turn my highbeam on anymore while flying in traffic:roll:

mine does it too. You only have one beam, which technically runs on the low side. If you hit the high beam it does that weird strobe and if you do it for more then just a split second it kills the bike. Just hit run and it'll fire right back up, weird glitch I know....I'd go practice on a 2 lane, not the freeway though!

Aren't the newer HID's running a regular style low beam to avoid this problem? My high/low switch was on the left, opposite my run/off. Did they change this on the newer bikes? Makes no sense to have it on the same side.

Nah man, I don't think that's what they mean....Ever say turn 'right' when you meant to say 'left'? Same thing, ever mash/squeeze right hand when ya meant to hit the left? Think they're suggesting a possible error/crossed internal human signal lead from the brain is all. Controls haven't changed that I know of.

The HID I have has a low wattage Halogen light in the high beam, so it does have a hi, but it's not HID.

I am certain only my left hand was moving. I was doing 70 and would not have had a relaxed grip on the throttle side. I think the key is I was flashing the light with my left thumb.

It was really no big deal, just a suprise that it happened.

My 09 has the run/off on the right side, I think this is the same as on older bikes.
