Guys, Sorry I dont have my service manual, I need to take off my engine crankshaft nut..would that be counter clockwise to losen it? I know the tranny nut is the opposite...Clockwise to losen...

Thanks

when taking off the crankshaft nut will the engine compression be enough to hold shaft from spinning when using a impact gun? Thanks

Yes, you should be able to get it off with an impact. I will usually heat it up with a torch first, and it should come right off. When you put it back on, put a shitload of red locktight on there, and make sure that the charging rotor is in place and straight. It's standard thread, lefty loosey.

gotta disagree with you Moe on the "shitload of loctite" thing. You don't want to literally weld it on there. A few drops of the correct loctite should do the trick - if it holds it holds. Always worked for me. Just my most humble opinion of course :D

I stuff a shop rag between the teeth and gear to hold things. You may get away without it taking it off with an impact wrench but you'll probably want to try using a rag when you torque it back on...:D

My front pulley nut came loose twice while riding. Trust me it's not pretty, both times the mainshaft machined the teeth right off the rotor, and the second time the flywheel pulled the mainshaft and timkin into the motor almost 1/4". Since then I put locktite and I safety wire it in place. I've had that thing off at least 10 times in the last year, never a problem if you heat it with a torch. If it comes loose, you've got a catastrophe. With the open primary you got that big heavy pulley spinning way out there, more stress and more torque against that nut when you hit the gas.

Good Question ....

I'm glad dog1 asked this question because I forgot which one was left hand and which one was right hand ... I did the Bandit clutch replacement myself but I didn't remember. I need to check my clutch nut and clutch post nuts ... I think my nuts are loose ... there's a little clanking noise when I'm at a stop out of gear ... can't hear anything of course when I start moving ... It doesn't happen all the time ... I checked the chain tension and it seemed ok ... but when I take the primary cover off I'll get to see what's going on in there .... :D :job:

It's a ripoff! $.15 worth of safety wire and some locktite...

Actually the Ultima setup I have has a hollow nut so it was damn easy to safety wire. If you have a solid nut that locking plate is the way to go, just a little pricey though...

I think the $25 was worth it, way cheaper than then the 2 previous charging systems that got wiped out.

I'm with al but Moe... that is how I always rolled on the sportbikes and it works well. Still have my safety wire kit in the garage.

You guys got off for $25, he wanted something like $150 for the Ultima setup, claimed he didn't have enough requests for them? The nut on the Ultima is smaller.
