EHC RIP Install

Finchie I got the JST plugs and pins from my buddy... I think you can order them online.

Anyways I finished the install yesterday and to my disappointment nothing is working. When I connect the battery the thunder heart ignition lights up for about 10 sec, but when I try the key on I don't have anything working. Checked my connections several times, and everything looks correct. I'm running an 8n key switch but the bike ran with that switch before the RIP install.

Emailed Matt and hoping for some help on this one. Any ideas?

I'm sorry! I wish I had an idea. My bike ran one day drove from garage to front of house turned off and never turned on again. Keep at it. Look for the simple things first. Thanks for the update.

I am currently using an HD battery. Part number: 65989-97c, 315cca, no issues with it. You will need to have a minimum of 310cca. You can also check out Wild Steed Worx for a few other choices of batteries. I'll be ordering my next battery from WSW.
Wildsteedworx.com

Also, there are some good threads here on the forum about batteries that you can search and read over. :old2:
I've been using This HD battery on all my bikes for years they are solid and have good battery life. I've had one in my 2011 Mastiff three years and still going no sign of weakness yet. Ive have no plans to switch to another battery I couldn't be more pleased. I've also heard some have had a bad experience with this battery but that is not my case at all jmo

I don't know the wire numbers, but they were in the connection in the battery box, where the main harness connects to the supplemental harness that goes to the key switch and coils. There 2 red wires, 1 yellow, and 1 orange... The red wires needed to be swapped. I had power to the coils at all times, but no power to the key switch. Thankfully Chris at BDM quickly figured it out. I had a connector tool from work that makes depinning the JST connector a breeze.

That is true, I have also heard a few bad experiences, but then again you never know if someone took care of it or if there was another electrical issue that caused damage to the battery or simply just a defective one.

As far as my bikes, I've used this HD battery on both my K9's and my Ridgeback. Never an issue. Never a complaint. When the time comes for me to replace this battery then I'll look into my options, in the end I may just stay with this battery simply from my experience with them.

I don't have a pic of the tool, but you can google JST connector pin tool... Looks like a screw driver with a small square shaft and angled end. You unlock the pin from the connector by inserting in the opening above the pin, and gently pull the wire/pin out at the same time.

Finally figured this out... after sending the RIP module in to verify it was good. Turns out that two red wires were miss-pinned in the main harness. Swapped them around in the connector and now everything works! Damn that was a long and frustrating deal, glad she runs again...
Did they think or imply that this is on all there kits? So what plug is this that this problem exists ? And this separate wire that came in the kit where does it go?

So much for quality control....

They didn't indicate if this is a common issue, but I did notice another RIP kit post mentioned a miss-pinned connector. The separate 4 wire harness is for the coils and key switch... you route it alongside the main backbone harness. This harness has two connectors in the battery box, one goes to the ignition module, and the other connects to the main back bone harness which ultimately connects to the new control module. I assume they designed this "secondary harness" to increase usage of the main back bone harness across multiple models, by supplying different secondary harnesses for various models based on location of the key switch and coils. Purely an assumption on my part, I don't know if this is truly the case.

Anyways I think the installation instructions could be better, but overall the guys at BDM are doing a good job of trying to get the company back up and running, while also supporting owners of the old bikes too.

Thanks ! You think if they were going to sell something like this kit they would at least have some instructions with it. Know bolts & nuts for mtg bracket? For a company trying to promote there new brand these are the same problems the old company had not a good start. They know who they sold these kit to they should be sending out updates and instructions that just makes good business since. They don't get a good rating from me. We shouldn't have to call numerous times to sort out there problems or send there product back to check to see if it's good. I'm very disappointed with all there hype. Spent all the money on videos to show how bulletproof and waterproof but can't put a simple instructions in the kit. But I appreciate all the work you did on this issue. I guess me and are the only two that bought this kit lucky us. Thanks again.

I did install one and no mispins bike fired up runs flawlessly have only about 1500 miles.

While I still agree with you they should offer more detailed instructions.
