OK so I installed this kit on my 2005 big dog chopper DT ! Spent all this time wiring making it look nice turn the key no power nothing .. have searched for troubleshooting guide etc. with no luck. Anyone have any experience with this issue or have any advice etc.? I also have contacted place of purchase still have not received a reply since I work crazy hours and I am usually working on my bike when everyone is closed .

Randy, first off maybe do a intro, that way we get to know ya just a bit, then do a post in the help needed forum and you'll prolly get a better response to your questions, I am not familiar with the RIP kits at all, but I would just trace the power from the battery with my Multi-meter to try and find where the problem is, most likely you have some wires connected wrong somewhere, did you get instructions with your kit? Some guys here did not get any with their RIP kits, I am sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction soon, good luck and welcome!

Thanks, well I bought this bike about two months ago got a screaming deal on it. Been riding my whole life always have wanted a chopper! Now I have one and have tons of issues ha ha. Thanks for the response yes I got some kind of a makeshift instructions but it's not helping much with trouble Shooting! Just have become extremely frustrated have a ride planned for Saturday and all this is going on.

I to know nothing about the RIP. But lots of people on here do. So hang on the answer will be on it's way.

I sure hope so, because I'm about to pull my hair out trying to figure this out and I cannot find any troubleshooting guides or anything on the subject.

I installed the RIP-2 just before the last Daytona Bike Week. The only issue I've had was the speedo connector came loose, after fixing that it's been trouble-free. Very surprised to see all these RIP problems popping up, as it has proven to be a very reliable component.
You still have a lot of Big Dog proprietary electronics, though. I don't have much to offer, since I haven't had to mess with it, like Eric said, what symptoms were you addressing with the modification?

What was the problem which prompted the install of the RIP kit?

Ever since I bought the bike I have had issues with lights not working and then a few days ago the whole speedometer and tach ring went out .. all research I have done pointed to EHC. So I pulled the one out of my buddies Ridgeback put it in everything work properly! So I ordered RIP kit installed it now I have no power at all when you turn the key no lights etc. absolutely zip.

Well if no power it just has to be a the main power lead.
I agree it has to be something simple. Take a look at how you have the Circuit Breaker hooked up. Hell maybe you just need to reset the circuit breaker?

It's very hard to help dianose electrical problems over the internet. Especially when it's completely dead.

I have power to the RIP! Using a test light at the power wire going in to the box but nothing changes when you turn the key it's like there is no power to ignition or something I don't know. I agree it has to be something stupid that I am missing extremely simple but I am so frustrated I cannot find it ! I have went over every connection numerous times trying to figure it out. Got so frustrated last night I just quit till I get off work today to play with it again

People don't understand or can't figure out the electronics on these bikes so they sell cheap and the next guy thinks he gets a deal but comes here to get help cause the bike don't run. Some of the problems are very simple ones and some are not, but elimination of the basics help most of the time if they have some knowledge of trouble shooting.

That's what brought me to this forum... and thanks to some of you active members, and threads that are dated but still good, have found just about every answer I needed here. I know someone will chime in before long. My first suspicion hetre is wiring continuity, tedious as it is. New ignition, "new" speedo. I'd ohm out as much of the wiring as possible, then move to components.

Okay well that's more to offer than originally. So you've confirmed you have +12v to the module. Cool!

So now see if you have +12v going to the keyswitch, and confirm +12 on the opposite wire when key is on.

Easy to get frustrated but with electrical problems you just gotta one step at a time.

Most new members come to the site in a state of frustration, over their bike's issues... We also try to have a good time... laughter is a good tension reliever... and does less damage than throwing wrenches...lol. :old2::oldhardlaugh:
