My time has come to replace my EHC unit in 05 Chopper. Any suggestions between stock unit, BD R.I.P., or Wild Steed Worx? Also does anyone know if they are warrantied. Thanks for any advice.

What is your issue? You may not need a new EHC. You should troubleshoot your problems before spending a bundle on a new EHC. If you have an issue that is not caused by a failing EHC ( and there are many) you will be back at square one or worse.

I had to jump start it a couple times. Then later it wouldn't shut off with the hand switch or the key. The connection to the hand control was fine but the plug at the hand control had been fixed prior and needed replacing. I pulled the ta k and replaced that wire harness. Then the on button wouldn't work at all. A friend of a friend is retired and worked on Big Dogs forever. I showed him the ECH and he said it looked like the original and was amazed it still worked. He thinks I may have damaged it by jumping it with a heavy duty jump pack. I'm bad with electrical. I could electrocute myself changing flashlight batteries.

I don't believe jumping it with a jump pack would hurt it. They say if you use a car do not have it running.

Thank you. I'm going to check a couple more options but I'm afraid it's the EHC. A "new" old stock EHC is almost $500 but seems like that would eventually fail too. May as well get a better one for a bit more.

So here’s the thing. The Bigdog RIP replacement is going to require that you remove your gas tank and the connections to everything will be replaced with the new EHC harness. The WSW/ Axle EHC replacement is considerably easier to install. I think 5 wires and a simple repair to the main existing harness connector that allows it to connect & lock it in place and bam your done. 1 hour job. Fits perfectly right where the existing EHC was positioned also. IMG_2047.jpeg

I did the BDM rip replacement and I don't remember removing the tank -- it's only 1 part of the harness that gets replaced and it was not that hard of a job when I did it. Worse part was trying to re-orient things to get all the wore in place so the side covers went on easy! (That's on my EFI K-9 anyway) I could be wrong about the tank -- it's been a few years.

Thanks for the advice. Mine is a DT frame and the battery sits parallel to the frame bit I don't think that's an issue...

I was referring to the video instructions from Bigdog when installing the RIP ehc to remove the fuel tank. Maybe it can be done otherwise. I don’t know. I went with the Axle EHC and am quite happy I did.

I believe the Axle EHC for your year & model is designed to be installed exactly where your current one is. So yeah I don’t think there should be any issues. My .02….get with Curtis @ WSW. He can hook you up. He’s on eBay. That’s where I purchased mine.

I don't believe WSW is on ebay, I'd email or phone 619-823-8557 or Curtis Adams <wsworx@gmail.com>

That’s interesting considering I bought one from him through eBay in March. Maybe he has sold out of Axle Joost EHC. Or it’s a different Wildsteedworx….IMG_3383.jpeg

i replaced my 2008 Mutt carb model with the RIP gen 1 it was quite a task but so far so good on the working. you will have to remove you tank and its a Bit&h to get those connecters through the backbone without damaging them. then connectors have to be oriented well enough that the tank sits back on. you will have a lot of extra wiring to bundle inside the battery area also as there is more since it was made from a Harley set up. if you are not handy with this stuff you might have to pay to have it done. its doable yourself but i thibk its a lot of work. mine previously had a wires plus set up that looked like a birds nest,,,,, anyway good luck
