ECM Replacement

Energy One

I am having problems with my ECM. Appears may have had a short in the on-off/start button on the handlebar that messed up the ECM. Not sure which happened first, but it left me stranded and am having a shop work on it. There is not currently a Big Dog dealer in Austin. The local ones are 80 miles away. One of the shops is new to Big Dog.

I read several posts today and appears there are some historical issues with the ECM. The shop that is doing the work on my bike is a custom chopper builder, but not experienced with Big Dogs. After mine, they don't want to look at another one.

We are in the process of ordering a new ECM, but want to be prepared in the event I have this issue again. WOuld like some feedback on:

1) Aftermarket ECM replacements
2) Supported Big Dog replacements
3) Re-wiring to get rid of the ECM

Thanks

Do a search. Rewire is the way to go. This is a hot topic these days. Makes for a good winter project.

Definately re-wire. Spent 2 years screwing with electrical issues. Have everything rewired on a circuit breaker. The only thing that I could not re-wire was speedo, which is the only thing I had left on EHC. Problem with speedo was size was different than everyone elses so no replacement would fit on in-tank models. Never had any problems after re-wire. BD really screwed the pooch when they incorporated those pieces of shit and for some unknown reason have continued to use them although virtually every bike they put out there has had problems with them.

Its not a direct plug-play. If you check out the site you can view or download the directions. After reading and FULLY understanding them, you'll have to decide if you want to try and tackle this. I just got off the phone with wire-plus, he can direct to the nearest shop that has done these wire mods already. 620-221-2417.

Welcome to Wire Plus, Inc. - We Build Reliability

its right there on the home page, click on the pic and then scroll down to the description, there you'll see the links for the instructions and wiring diagram. Looks like someone finally posted some feedback on the kit. I'm still saving for mine.

I JUST FOUND OUT THAT I BURNT MY BRAIN OUT. SO, I HAD TO NOT ONLY REPLACED THE BRAIN, BUT HAD TO DO A COMPLETE REWIRING JOB. I HOPE THIS WILL HELP SOMEONE.
