ECM dead 08 K9

Well, my dealer finally told me my ECM went "Caboom" The bike never quite ran smooth since I bought her in Aug...THe bike sat on the show floor room for 2 years...The bike would hesitate once you gas it out of first gear...Anyway..Will Big Dog send me a better ECM or will send the same "Defected" product? I find out tomorrow what will Big Dog do...It's still under warranty...What I want Big dog to do is take my bike back to the factory, Gut it and put in some New and improve wiring and tune my bike to live up to a 30k dollar bike!:flag:

I know it is frustrating. You may want to look into the wire plus kit. Bdm is doing away with the ehc.
Search ehc or wireplus and you will find lots of information so you can make an educated decision.
Best of luck.

Wait till you hear back from the pound when they will ship the new system to your dlr, if it is an 'unknown when' or it will be some time, the wire plus is your answer.

Let us know what transpires and good luck:cheers:

My bike is still under warranty...IMO, Big Dog should replace the wires to Wire Plus...Only logic...I heard a rumor that if your ECM burns up, they build a one off which takes them at least a month...I didnt pay mucho dinero for them to take their time..Hopefully, they have a solution to the older bikes still under warranty...You would think they understand the issues out there and solve the problems...

 welcome to the club. see what the boys say first, they may surprise you. Subtle detail, BD uses an EHC, Harley uses ECU/ECM... no big deal though ecxept the ehc is a POS IMO

Based on what you've previously told us; (which is all we really know) let's play it back to something like this:

1) You bought an '08 EFI model in Oct of this year after it having sat in showroom for some 2 + years.
a) Was it ran periodically - don't know
b) Did it sit there with fuel stabilizer in it - don't know
c) How many miles were on this new bike - don't know
d) Bike hesitates under 3k RPM - no its not your primary causing this.
- varnished up fuel system? who knows.

2) ~3 hrs later; you let us know about shiny new pipes; bike still runs poorly under 3k RPM, but looks and sounds bad ass over the previous V&H.
a)Next day V&H pipes go on the auction block.

4) Chrome the hand controls once you figure out how to take them off.

5) Two months later; Santa brings some Kurayken multicolored bling bling to the mix
a) Chrome hand controls, kick ass pipes, multi-color lights, uh oh, hey something wrong with my EFI - wtf.
b) Cut the stock plug wires in favor of Red ones - did you get some some nice Red taylor wires overnight and installed?

6) Next day, bike is not getting fuel - hear what is described as air being sucked from pump; ran it a bit low on fuel the day before.
a) yep, new battery; when, which one, how many CCA, kept on tender etc?

7) 8 hrs later; replaced fuse, same prob; ah screw it, take it to the same dealer that you don't know if they know what they are doing anymore than yourself.

8) Two days later, dealer says EHC goes caboom? Huh? Come again?
a) Why - What dealer describes a problem with such terms?
b) How was it tested
c) Can anyone in this picture better describe what caboom means?
d) Can they explain to you sufficiently how is it we go from pump is pumping something, but bike isn't getting fuel to a bad EHC diagnosis? what circuit path has failed specifically?

You just want to ride, that's understandable. But really, why should BDM or anyone else believe your EHC is defective based on what we know? Why do you seem to believe there is an inherent design flaw with your 08 EHC? Is it because you've read various threads, articles etc about prior years problems and just assume it all fits and that must be it? Have you also read that BD has also corrected problems with it over the years? Could it be the problem? - Sure.
Doubt it; but either way, in the end your thread is just another of threads which leads people like yourself to condemn the EHC without any real knowledge of diagnosis - thus completing the circle.... - jus saying.
But hey, best of luck getting her back on the road quickly and let us know how it turns out....

WOW! Somebody doesnt have much to do...lol..Well the dealer put the bike on the computer that said it was the EHC causing problems....Dont get it wrong, I'ma Big Dog Fan! but the EHC seems to be a little "Problematic"...Come on we all know, Big Dog could have improved the circuitry..."Hence" Wire Plus....Lets not be "blinded by the light"

Makes me wonder why I even tried to help, much less use all that sensitivity training to do it.....ya, I'll step back into the light now or maybe go for a brisk ride.

Thanks PurpleDog for tracking my Dog issues, but at the end of the day, I need a 30K dollar bike to perform and not be in the shop...No disrespect...

Get the BDM EHC replacement unit from BDM and go ride! You will loose the 4-way flashers and flasher kill features....so what! BIG DEAL you'll never use the 4-way flashers and just push the turn button to turn it off the turnsignal after you turn.

I don't have much faith in many BDM MC mechanics regarding EHC diagnosis except for mine, John at Beezer's Custom Cycle!
John did properly diagnose my EHC problem and got me back on the road. Thanks John, you are appreciated.

It seems that too many knee-jerk mechanics that try to fix a BDM EHC problem, DON'T KNOW THEIR ASS FROM A HOLE IN THE GROUND.

Wow! I love my Big dog but god it has been one problem after another, many self imposed many just the nature of the bike. Most of the time I have fucked the bike up has been after a ride and the damn thing died. I replaced my EHC with wire plus, replaced the starter, cam sensor and many other fixes. I love it but just waiting for it to break down again. Granted it is 6 yrs old with 9K mile on it. it is one finicky bike Just my 2 cents.

I feel ya...The bikes are beautiful...Well, I wish Big Dog would recall them and strip all the wires and re-do them...oh well, she's my problem now...
