Does anyone ride without a front brake? My front brack bracket broke off this weekend, and i'll need to order parts. Rally this weekend, should i go without the front brake, or call off the run???

I personal would like to have the front brake, but after thinking about it I almost never use it, I would make sure my rear brakes are in good working order and ride, but maybe do more gearing down and get parts on order.

I rode without a front brake for 2 weeks the last time I changed front ends. I was waiting on a bracket and wanted to ride. Of course you can do it, but it's always in your mind that something is going to happen to make you lose the rear! No big deal though, just be careful.

Considering the front brake supplies the lions share of your stopping power and keeping in mind all the idiots you meet out on the road...

I'd fix the bracket before I went too far. :)

I use my front and rear brake every time. I was always tought that the front brake provides most of the braking power. I would try to leave yourself alot of extra room for stopping. Be safe:cheers:

U huh. I use mine for primary, prolly 70/30, unless on a gravely corner or in sand...or like areas...

What part do you need what piece broke. Im a rear brake guy so I could roll without my front brake. No you cant have mine:cheers:
My HD dealer here might have parts that will work or take the long way down here and check with the las Cruces Dog dealer

The front brake provides 60 - 80% of your stopping power because of weight transfer. Have you ever wondered why a decent number of motorcycles have dual discs on the front and many cars with four wheel disc brakes have considerably larger pads on the front? Now you know why! :D

The quicker you need to stop the more you can appreciate what the front brake does for you...

I would go with out my back break before I would go with out my front. I agree with the above statements "the front does most of the work". When you apply the front break the weight transfers forward and then down (front shocks compress), driving all of that momentum/force back down into the pavement (helps your traction/keeps rear from skidding). As long as the road surface is dry and clean, I feel like I can stop quickly w/ both breaks. With just the rear my confidence level drops considerably.

Is it a show stopper? To each is his own. I would most likely pass...and I am not saying I don't ever take chances, but the older I get I don't feel so bullet proof anymore. Definitely be extra careful if you do. As stated in other posts "Live to ride another day!"

I wouldnt do it, have you ever seen anyone that tried to swerve around traffic and only use the rear brake in an emergency? they slide sideways then highside it, not a pretty sight. brakes are 70% front and 30% rear, thats why the older cars and bikes had disc on front and drums on the rear.

I rode one night without any back brakes. The spring clip broke and i lost my pads. I won't ever ride like that again. No matter how careful you ride you still have to consider the unexpected. Be careful bro!!

Hey guys thanks for the input. After trying different places here in albuquerque, i should have the brake on by 5 today, just in time to ride to Ruidoso!

FYI - I probably wouldn't have ridden without the front brake.

Dakotabos - see you tomorrow at the C&C.
