Dual Coil Setup ?

Along with all the other new shit going on the bike this winter... Im installing a dual coil set up. I am having trouble getting any info on how to wire these up to our factory wires. I went with the Dyna 3ohm coils . On the coils are 2 posts and at one end there are 2 screws. Now can anyone tell me how to wire these up to my 04 Ridgeback.

Josh,

I have a dual coil, dual plug setup on my Harley so I'm somewhat familiar with this...

The only wiring diagram I have for your bike is from a 2005 but I would think it may be the same.

The red power wire from the ignition module should go to both coils, mine goes to one of them with a jumper running to the other.

The blue wire that fires the rear cylinder should go to the other primary connection on the coil that has it's high tension lead connected to the rear spark plug.

And last but not least, the yellow wire (which fires the front cylinder) should go to the open primary connection of the coil with it's high tension lead connected to the front cylinder.

Piece of cake! :D

Another round please
Other than looks, I dont think there is any advantage except plug life, is there? Dual fire just means both fire at the same time. No biggie. I do like the looks though.

I know my engine runs cooler too...

2004 are dual fire, 2005 and up are a single fire. Dual coil setup will work on both.
I just assumed that the 2004 had the same ignition as the 2005 (and I only had the wiring for the '05) but apparently not. In that case there would only be two wires to the original coil primaries from the ignition module so you just hook them up to one of your new coils and run jumpers to the second coil...

That's what I get for assuming! :bang:

actully you are right about this DRB.... I have looked into this a little more and that is the case. I only have 2 wires going to that location and actully, and that is how I am to set it up... Thanks for all the info everyone

If you just take a dual fire ignition, and wire it to 2 single fire coils, aren't you just firing both coils at the same time, just like single fire? BTW, there was definitely a difference when I went to the Dyna 2000i ignition and single coils. Bike idles smoother and less vibration. Don't know if I got more power or if it runs cooler, but I know I was impressed.

The nice thing about this setup is that if you upgrade to a adjustable single fire ignition the coils still work. All you need to do is remove one set of the jumpers.

So what is the ohm reading suppose to be for ther stock BDM single fire coils?
I ohm'ed mine yesterday from the power pin in the middle to each signal pin and it was 1 ohm. Across the 2 signals it read 1.7 oms.

Wonder why mine read so low then when I ohm'ed mine yesterday....

This was on a EFI bike 2007.
