For some reason I could not find DOT 5 in my town... or in the Petrol Stations (I did not look too hard neither).... so the mechanic told me to use DOT 4, which you can find everywhere! I have not had any issues.

Should I be concerned???

DOT5 and 'what you must use. Dot3-4 are different and corrosive. Do not mix the two types together! If you have any questions you can send me a private message.
But reading more about what you mean to say I think you need, as Carlos has already said, to rebuild your caliper, then the links that Carlos gave you can help.

You are correct

Type it in Google translator in italian then translate it to english. Most of us can understand broken english. Around here we call that redneck

I still have to have some of our southern dog owners do that

DOT 4 will not blend with DOT 5..it's like oil and water, they just do not go together. It turns into a nasty gel type substance in your brake system.
You can use DOT 4 if that's all that is available to you, but in order to use it, you will have to flush the DOT 5 out of the system completely. To flush it completely you will have to take entire system apart to ensure it's 100% removed.
Otherwise, can't you order the DOT 5 off internet? Or couldn't someone like myself send you some?

Hummm... you got me thinking now Andrew!

In theory, the mechanic who did the revision/mods, etc so the bike could pass the Spanish ITV (Technical Vehicle Inspection) which we have to do every two years should have looked at it... but in about two months of riding the bike I did find out (the hard way) the front brake was EMPTY so I filled it up with DOT 4... at the same time I topped up the rear brake too with the same DOT 4 ... I had no problems whatsoever for the, almost, two years riding it now. I will do some checking on it when I go home.

If I had mixed the two fluids... would I have noticed straight away or is this something that takes quite a bit of time to go wrong?

Thanks for the offer, I will keep it in mind :2thumbs:

Grazie.

He said that when he pull the front brake, oil come out from the hole where you bleed the air out (sfiato=bleeder?). And he said that when it take off the lid on the handle bar and pull the lever air bobble come out from it.
So he is asking what's could be the problem?
Maybe a leaky bleeder?

simplest fix would be to replace the bleeders, both front and rear, and to take off the top of the reservoir and check the rubber boot inside for tears or just replace it with a new one. (the reservoir may simply be over-filled though) and then replace fluid with DOT-5 after cleaning the system and bleed it.

Thank you all, and sorry for my english still bad. Dnespolo you are great! Very friend, thank you.Come said the seal seems good, I filled the oil tank still brake, but always comes out when I press the lever. I empty the entire circuit and put oil. Seal is no longer in stock, in case I can find it elsewhere? In 2005 he rode chopper model of two different types.

He is saying that there are not seal in stock and he is wondering where else he can find one. Not sure where he is looking for it though.
Anyway ciucciacusino di dove sei, dove vivi in Italia?
