Some of the excessive play in the stand I believe was intended in the design. Reason I believe and I have done it several times is if you forget to put it up and drive off and it touches the road in a turn, it folds up and does not throw you off the bike. Yea I know stupid, but it happens and never has it cause me problems and has always folded back up.

There is a reason why the Big Dog kick stand has some play. If you take off without putting your kick stand up and you make a right turn and the foot of the stand contacts the ground, the kick stand will come up smoothly and NOT kick out from the ground and send your rear end jumping out to the right. A Big Dog dealer demonstrated that to me when I bought my Mastiff. I don't know what would happen with your kick stand if you had that washer in there which you say "tightened it up".

The washer I used did very little tightening, still works as intended just took a little slop out of it.

I had one of the adjustables

on my old K-9 for a little while -- First time in 5yr that the bike sunk into the hot asphalt (and the last) I went back to the stock (beat up) stand that was leaning more than yours till I was able to get a new stock kickstand.

If the arlen ness had a bigger contact are a it would be ok.

There used to be a shik that took some of the angle out of the lean by adding the tapered shim behind the kickstand where it bolts to the frame.mI faked that at one point with a different number of washers top and bottom -- not exceptionally pretty but kept it upright.
